How to play post-punk/garage rock guitar style

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has really sat down and studied the guitar style of this genre and bands like maybe Franz Ferdinand, The Bravery, The strokes etc.

I mean it's of course too vague to lump all these bands together since they can have different sounds and all but I realised that they do have a unique guitar style that isn't simply your usual power chords, penta/blues scale lead guitar playing.

I've tried to listen to lots of the influences of these bands (like television, the fall, gang of four, the talking heads, orange juice etc) and I wonder if anyone else is curious as to this kind of guitar style. When I search google and all, I can't find any guides and all I get are words like "disco-inspired" and "angular".

Anyone has anything to add?

listen to the drumbeat.

that's the catch of these wave of bands - they do sound disco.

guitar style, they're mainly chordal or octave based. Nothing too fancy to confuse the mainstream listener - the whole concept is to get the song across and stickied to a listener as fast as possible.
