Hello...i been playing electric guitar for about 1 year now...but i still suck!!!:mad:i practice 1 hour a day but i can't seem to do even a simple solo!
i could play songs with simple chords in it but i still feel i suck alot...i suck...
can you guys recomend a scale or something for me to improve and attempt shredding?Another question...how does shredding works?

GO YOUTUBE !!!!

I learn alot of scales and shred techniques there, even pinching, double tapping every guitar technique they have to offer is all there. Just search how to Shred guitar, something like that.

This guy's good, learnt alot of stuff from em... check it out n good luck

I think in everything you do, not just for guitar. It is important to be able to visualise yourself doing what you intend to do before you do it.

Say you wanted to play a solo, riff or lick 'x'. Before you play it, you firstly need to be able to imagine yourself being successful at it. If you think 'cannot lah' then your playing will really be 'cannot lah'. Keep yourself calm, sing your music in your head, get into your groove. 'See it, feel it, do it'. (no innuendo intended here boys ^^v)

dont worry to much about progress.
Just try as much as possible to enjoy what you play and naturally you will be better

What hifi_killer said is true, if you don't enjoy what you're playing, you won't be able to put your heart and soul into your music.

Improving

I have some suggestions though it may not be the best one.To improve you gotta now your sticking points. Its true that it becomes overwhelming since there are so many things to practice on.Break your practice shedule into different sections and always start slowly.Speed is a product of playing slowly with correct technique.you could start with the pentatonic scale for improvisation.Try and play a 12 bar blues progression and try to incorporate some blues licks that you see in youtube videos, etc lots of examples.I recommend you watch paul gilbert's videos he uses lots of pentatonic licks at warp speed. It important that you learn licks and develop sort of a bank of licks in your memory.Once you master those licks, your ears will guide you and your fingers will hit on the right notes.Soon you'll be creating your own licks.Another thing to try is using sequences in playing scales-a lot of shredders use this technique to create a "wall of notes" and combine them with arpeggios. As for improvising you need to know some theory as to which scales to use over what chords.Hope this helps.Cheers!

hifi_killer.... pathetic is very worried that's why he post here haha.
What hifi_killer quote is right.
You know what is the most important aspect of a musician?
It is the ability to hear. Music is a listening art.
If you are enjoying what you are playing, then you are hearing. Use your ears to guide you.
Spend your time to think of the problem you face more than your incorrect methods of practise. List out the problem you face clearly and post here separately so we can advise according. Now we dunno you face technique problems or lack of knowledge on the good practise methods.
Creating awareness of how your muscles move are very important in technique development.

Try this 2 things:
Study just one set of major and minor scales. I suggest you use A major and A minor.
1. Technique development
Play the two sets of scales in a slow and relaxed manner. Playing slow but wrong muscle movements will not help at all! Check that all your other parts of your body is not making extra effort to just plucking one string and one note. (shoulders, neck, arm, wrist, stomach and basically every part of your body except your fingers used) Get the right motion. Do not rush for speed.
2. Hearing development (musicial development)
Listen to the sound of the notes. Dun just run your fingers all over the place. Every note have a different sound. After listening, name out the notes. By doing that, you will be clear of the difference between the major and minor scale as u do it daily. Find the difference.
Hope it helps.

Hey bro, don't get frustrated, you only been playing electric guitar for about 1 year. Takes time to improve and don't give up.

A year isn't that long if you think it is. I've been playing for two plus. But i have adult friends who've been playing for, what, 40 plus? So relax, it takes time to improve and everything. Just enjoy what you can now, play what you can, slowly improve. (I'mma 15, in case y'all are wondering.)
