How many keyboardists here are into ROCK?

Then how come not many guitarists, bassists and drummers, etc are into learning how to play the keyboard?

drummers are usually happy where they are.

guitarists are always in the limelight - no way they'll "drop" down to a "lesser instrument"

bassists want to be guitarists.

keyboardists want to be bassists.

nobody wants to be keyboardist cos keyboards only for girls. real men play guitar!

wat abt geddy lee, steve harris, john myung, mark king, billy sheehan, victor wooten, flea, les claypol, jaco pastorius, stuart hamm, tak pakai ke pe'???

lol...that was unexpected from you, ian.

And yes, dear male keyboardists out there, I understand your pain when your mum made you learn piano.

Then how come a lot of the keyboardists wanna do sequencing and mixin' and what have you...trying to be a one man show?

Keyboardists are highly underrated in bands depending on subgenres of rock/metal. keyboardists have a highly versatile role in bands, be it creating ambience, solos, harmonies with guitars, full chords, stabs stabs + stabs, covering bass while the bassist plays higher octaves, and making the overall sound of the band refined. I'm always amazed when I see average to pro keybordists do all these at gigs. And I thought my guitar role was tough...

I think you got to thank bands like Dream Theatre, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Galneryus etc because these are the guys who bring out the potential of the role of a keyboardist.

These are the bands that take metal music to a whole new level with the addition of the keyboards. I use think that who would want a keyboardist in their band considering the fact that the guitars are like going "chugga chugga chugga", with people headbanging and all and then here comes this keyboardist who goes "ding dong ding ding dong", which I felt did not make music sense due to the nature of rock and metal music.

As a keyboardist sometimes I really feel a sense of satisfaction when people come up to me and they're like, "Wow you're a keyboardist and you're into these bands? Awesome!!!! I love the way <Insert Keyboardist Name> from <Insert Band Name Here> does his chops on the keyboard, its totally awesome!!!! It is stuff like these that makes me proud to be a keyboardist!

I have to admit, there are very few keyboardist who are in the rock/metal scene. Most of the keyboardist are either locking up in their rooms sequencing music playing the man band role or in pop/jazz bands.

As far as the local metal scene is concerned (which I'm really fond of), the only keyboardist I've come across playing in a metal band is the keyboardist from Meza Virs.

There's actually a high demand for keyboardist in the rock and metal scene but sadly very few keyboardists are willing to venture of these genres of music. That's why I really need to emphasise this once again......THE SCENE NEEDS MORE ROCK AND METAL KEYBOARDIST!!!!

Hope to see more keyboardists venturing in these genres of music and for me personally I want to see more keyboardist headbanging on their keyboards!!!!
