How heavy is a fender strat......

I play a Gibson Les Paul Custom which is a mahogany concentrate and its has destroyed my back and my arms everytime i bring it to jam, coupled with my "weigh-a-ton" pedalboard.

And +1 to chanmin, les pauls are meant to be slung low......

Weight was said to contribute to sustain and resonance. But that somehow has become subjective. RGs do sustain too.

Fender strats are what i would probably prefer in long session gigs and it still sounds pretty much fine. Alder and ash bodied strats rock big time.

my fender is a deluxe fat strat...it's way heavier den most rgs...anyways personal preference...i'd give up sustain for an extremely lightweight body...rather set the pu's low like wad pentotonic said and boost the volume knob...:D

certain grades/ derivative of ash is light, the rest are rather massive.

King Crimson's Robert Fripp straps his Les Paul (these days he plays Fernandes) rather high up. it helps him fret better. it's really personal prefernces at the end of the day... 8)

imo i think diff ppl with diff physical limitations strap their guitars at diff height...look at petrucci holds so friggin high while paulgilbert...amazingly he can pull off scarified while holding at tt height...imo a long pinky is essential for holding punkrocker style and still sweep or bite off wide scale runs:)

My PRS Swamp Ash Special, is very light and resonant, and it sustains for ages as well. Yeah the pups are set quite low, so reducing string pull and making it sustain more. Its a revelation after my all mahogany gibson studio...

depends on the pickups, like for EMG's, you have to raise em as close as possible to the guitar strings, its probably because its active and the magnet is very weak compared to a passive one

oh one player who plays low is jimmy page. Man, that guy slings his les paul soo fricken low but can still solo on it effortlessly!
