How heavy is a fender strat......

some people have small frames and the weight of a gibby for example would be a hinderance to their playing since they cant support the weight without getting shoulder aches

i dont wanna start an argument here but my point is that not everyone is strong enough to stand and play with heavy guitars comfortably ! :)

It'll be comfortable once you put on large strap to help spread the weight over the shoulder areas.
Where weight is concerned, i'm still a little stuck on the heavier, the better, more sustain thing :)

IMO it does tire a player out. I'm a gibby owner too..haha... its really heavy, and strapping it on for 2 hours can make me feel more shag.

So is the fender strat heavier than a epi les paul? I tried the epi les paul standard and its really light. I don't know about gibby one....i can't stand playing with a heavy guitar for long

the gibson lp should be heavier..i read about a band whose guitarists had gibson lp's and sg's, but chose to play their epis cos they were lighter...ha..

i haf a strat which is ash...friggin heavy...basswood is way lighter...anyway imo weight is a very impt issue to me...esp if u wanna move alot while playing live haha

Just found out swamp ash and northern ash are two different things. One being much heavier than the other.

Taken off the warmoth wood description page:

Northern Hard Ash is very hard, heavy and dense. A Strat® body will normally weigh 5 lbs. and up. It's density contributes to a bright tone and a long sustain which makes it very popular. It's color is creamy, but it also tends to have heartwood featuring pink to brown tints. The grain pores are open and it takes a lot of finish to fill them up.

the Fender is appoximately between an Ibanez RG & Gibson LPs.

it's not about the wood type- my Ibanez RG560 is much heavier than my Ibanez 7-string, both are basswood. basswood isn't the lightest on offer either, some swamp ash are light weight.

yup.. my strat is made out of ash... its pretty light.. compared to my old rg..
but a minor difference in weight only la... i tried an american 57 reissue.. and its VERY light... abit too light imho...

i wish i could play on a lespaul... but i will look so stupid if i played with a lespaul strapped high... lespauls look best at the knees...
