How do we make our band have more feel?

performance wise definitely you must have stage presence.move around the stage and connect with the audience.for the drummer even if youre playing a really simple beat you must make it sound and look awesome!play with feel i guess use your facial expressions and all

Darkheart:
First of all, I think it will be good if you change your subject title to something more relevant, like "How to improve my band's stage presentation?"

Back to the topic at hand...
First of all, the band has to sound tight enough. Drums and bass have to lay a solid foundation. No point having the band doing stage acrobats when the band doesn't sound tight.

Next, be comfortable on stage. Move around. Show like you are enjoying yourselves on stage. No one really likes to watch a band that stands still throughout a gig. Might as well go home listen to CDs right?

Watch videos of how top bands perform and learn. I don't mean copy, but learn how they look so comfortable on stage. Even better, video down yourselves then watch and review how you look when you play. Do you look like a block of wood concentrating only on your instrument, or do you look like you are grooving along to the music and having a good time?

Stage presence will come when you have got the above stuff done. Hope that helps :)

wah lao!!! Administrator power, can change anything on the forum they want. Cool

Band feel

Hi,

Putting yourself in the story while singing or playing a song would bring out a whole lot of emotions. These involve understanding what the song means, dynamics, phrase, timing.

These emotions happen more easily to the individual but would take much more to make it happen as a band. It has to play/feel as one in order to achieve what you call "feel". You'll get the hair-standing feeling... Doesn't happen all the time. ;)

Start by playing/singing softly and gradually louder till loudest with your band. You will notice that everyone will express themselves very differently. This is where your band will get it's identity.

It takes a lot of effort to get where you want your band to be. Not everyone "feels" the same way so work on it, don't give up.

Best,
R.

Do you have any video for us to see? Easier to understand how your band is doing.

Kekekekkekeke ...you mean have feeling like Drummer .. Head shake shake abit, try to jump out from the seat for drummers and sing a little bit ...like that izzit..

How do we make our band have more feel?
This is just my own personal Opinion

(1) Well...... after drinking 1-Jug of Beer before Playing will do the Trick....

(2) I do feel that any Individual Band Members can likewise inspire each other while playing (like a Chain-Effect) during a Gig – as long as they show in their expression/action – that they themselves is enjoying and Having Great Fun during a Gig, as it shows confidence too.

(3) Cannot be scared and I will feel scared if I cant hear my Band members well in a Gig eg (The Singer or someone else) something that I needed to hear to kick me in on certain changes (or change in feel in a song) … even I can memories the entire song and Structure..I will still lack a little confidence here thus felling scared – when this happens - I will lose that Feel which will affect my other Band Members as they will affect me too.

(4) It’s about feeling good during playing – When we feel good usually we also play good – with feel as a whole in a Band.

(5) As a Drummer - I now must have the Lyrics of every single song my Band play (I actually print ou the Lyrics before Rehersals) - I learn to sing it (while I play my drums) at home - not to be a Singer (I have Terrible voice) - but this allow me to know the song better in my head and will enhance my Confidence level which indirectly (only later that I found out) - - make me enjoy the song better - and gave me more feel to the Songs my band is playing.

31st Jan Sunday at Crazy Elephant - The Band Elements

PS: - Thanks to Alvin of Music Lab here really and Crazy Elephant John for letting us Enjoy ourself so much.

Giyang - In this Philippino-Rock Song - I actually display more feel here I think - Because I can sing this Song and Knows this song very well too - by hard and most importantly - I love this song thats why.

Weighless In this English Rock Song - I have less Feel but I still have the feel - because I have less confidence in Playing this one - It's a New Song for my Band (and we only have 2 Rehersal so far before this actual gig) - 1st time playing

Hi,

I think first of all its practice ! Work on the songs until everyone in the band knows the structure down cold / blindfold. Record your rehearsals and listen to them, timing + groove okay, all breaks / endings clean ? That will give you confidence on stage.
When you have this confidence, things like running around on stage, interacting with eachother / the crowd comes just natural...and most of all : the crowd will see+feel that you are having fun on stage.

Depending what music you make, but I think its always nice to see a band on stage being "well dressed"...dont get me wrong, but coming from the couch with shorts and t-shirts may not inspire the crowd to keep looking at the stage. Something diff for a punkband ofcourse...I played in a Blues Brothers coverband, the band all in white suits except the two singers (of course in black...)...and the band looked very much "like a unit".

Also imho,guitar+keyboard-solos should not be too long...keep in mind that there are only a handfull of musicians in the crowd who might be interested, but the rest cant deal with Steve Vai / John Petrucci-solos...less is often more.

Hope you got some ideas from this thread...would be good to have a short video, just to see your performance.
