how do u control ur effx while running about on stage?

I used to know a guitar technician ... they say there is this controller thing that connect all the effects to the computer ... so can be triggered by the computer ... and the guitar technician does show me how to do it ... i juz dunno what is the thing that guy using and what program does he use for the computer ... all i see is that when he pressed the button the red light on the distortion pedal came out .. hahahaha

Hmm.

This is probably one of the reasons why you see bands like AC/DC having zilch need for efx:

1. their music style is so straight forward... there is enough dynamics coming out of their fingers no need for efx

2. you see angus young run all over the place, throw himself around like a maniac.. how to control efx?

3. It just seems so cool that all they need for their live shows are themselves, guitars and that drool-inducing wall of Marshall amps.

yeah... i read somewhere that Vai has a tech to control his effects, he only controls a few effects live like the wah

damn pampered to me.. but i though he is using the G-System? but hey G-system makes effects control way lots easier and it isnt midi.. a mix of high class multi with analog loop options... cost your life to own 1! no la.. joking.. juz maybe 1.5k and abv.. :P

They just have their techs backstage triggering effects for them, its not uncommon, and takes away the huge pedalboard that would otherwise get in the way of them prancing around.. :D

I think there's a lot of mutual trust, like job security/perks/bragging rights for the tech, and the artiste's faith that his effects will be properly triggered at the right time in a tasteful manner. The techs play the instruments themselves too, you know! So i suppose it helps in that sense, they know what the artiste is looking for.

it really depends on the artist. some, like kirk and vai, have their effects controlled by their personal guitar tech backstage via a practice amp. (those small 15-30 watt amps). only efx like wah/whammy/volume will he controlled by himself onstage, and usually he would have had multiple copies of those pedals wired into his efx loop placed all over the stage. others, like tom morello for instance, control their efx on their own. and you'll notice that he doesnt run around that much.
