i'm using a td-3 kit now. read up the manual but i've absolutely no idea how to record my drumming.

anyone?

Are you asking about recording short phrase loops into the TD-3? Or recording your live playing for self-evaluation?

If it's for the former, er... I dunno, I don't have a TD-3.

But, if it's for the latter, and what you want to record is rather extended, I'm not sure if the TD-3 has enough memory for recording a full drum solo, or a practice session. If you are doing external recording, there is a stereo audio out in the back of the TD-3 ya? you can also use the Mono out (left channel). If you have an MD recorder, SD Card Audio recorder, or software like Sound Studio, ProTools, or Logic on your computer, you can connect your TD-3 to the inputs of any of the above.

If using the stereo audio out, you can use RCA-mini jack cable with RCA-1/4" adaptors.
If using mono audio out, you can use normal 1/4" instrument cable with a 1/4"-mini jack adaptor. All these cables and adaptors available at Sim Lim.

Hope that's helpful...

yes the td3 does not allow recording into memory sadly. but you can always use the midi out if you are into that kinda stuff or as beboptang has described, use the line outs on the back of the module.

thanks you two!

i want to record my live playing for self-evaluation.

good, helpful stuff beboptang! greatly appreciated! i'll try out whatever you said, and if i've got problems or if it's successful, i'll update y'all!

thanks again for your time & info, flam und beboptang!

[EDITED] can i record it straight into my ipod? and would fruityloops do fine?

hey jeepers,

fruityloops should do the job just great.

to record straight to an ipod, you will probably have to get one of these gadgets:

i've used the iKey before, but earlier version they needed to iron out some problems with reliability.

the newer version is cheaper and so much more improved, it even comes bundled with microphones.

I'll be evaluating it soon...

other than that, some tips for recording e-drums (i'll try to make it as straightforward as possible) for typical windows PC

1) line-out of your e-drums (can be RCA (red-white), stereo 1/4" or 1/8") goes to
line-in of your PC sound card or built-in sound (usually a stereo 1/8")

2) make sure your recording from the line-in
- double-click 'volume' in task bar (lower right hand corner)
- go to 'options', 'properties'
- click on radio button for 'adjust volume for ...recording'
- check on the 'line in' box, and uncheck the rest (not entirely necessary, experiment a bit)
- set the level, and play around with it

3) Back in Fruity Loops, go to 'Channels' , 'Add a Channel', 'Audio Clip'
- Click record, play something, and see if sound captured
- Adjust from there

Hope this helps, feedback if more issues encountered!

cheers

plainsman's point number 2 is impt(make sure your recording from the line-in)

td-3's headphone output sounds horrible when u play it thru speakers or your recording device's line in.
