I used to have a Strat copy in the past and i dint have this problem.

However, my current guitar has a Floyd-Rose style floating bridge and it always raises in pitch if i palm mute on it. even if i just exert a little slight pressure on it. Is there any way to resolve this? Its very irritating.

Also what are tremsetters?

You have to change your style of palm muting.

Palm muting doesn't need to be "heavy handed", you don;t need to push down HARD to get good mutes. Lighten up on the pressure.

Next, look at the trem posts (don't know where, google) and try to position your hand nearer to the posts. Thats the pivot point, so if you position your palm closer there, you exert less force on the trem.

Its all about getting used to it and making changes. People are able to do it, and its not too difficult. Work on it.

A tremsetter is a device that introduces springs that stablises a trem. It does so by having springs that both pull and push, and it hooks on to the trem, so the trem is more stable. It does have its drawbacks, I wouldn't use one. You should search this forum, good threads on this.

lol....thanks for ur advice.....but i heard that alot of ppl have this problem as well, ed van halen stablises his trem so tt it only can go down....steve vai says on his website he uses the tremsetter as well cos he has problems with palm muting raising the pitch .......

Van Halen's floyd is in dive only setup. He can only dive.

Vai, does NOT use a tremsetter. He uses a variant of it, its similiar to the ESP Arming Adjuster that www.ibanezrules.com sells. Its superior to the Tremsetter IMO, doesn't alter the feel of the trem as much.

Do note, Vai is a violent player. He hits it hard.

If you can get used to lighter muting, then no reason to block or alter your floyd.

I think it defeats the purpose of a full floating trem when you have to "hinder" its performance.

yeah.. its true... for palm muting one a floating trem, sometimes i play almost on the saddles itself... somewhere around there.. and yes, you dont need to palm mute so hard...

yea man, ive got no probs palm muting on my floyd. just lightly will do. practice and in time it'll come naturally.
