hooking up the Boss Gt-8 to studio monitors

Just a question,

I've read online forums where they mentioned hooking up the Boss Gt-8 through active studio monitors into the the PHONES input jack.

Do any of you people have any experience with this?

I can't really afford a Tech 21 Power Engine.

Thinking of something that'll make me fully utilize the GT-8.

Any help would be appreciated,thanks in advance.
