hi, does anyone know where i can get equipment for a home recording studio? no, not those music ones, but those for podcasts/radio shows.

i need:

a decent large-diaphragm condenser mic

a decent mini desktop mixer

an audigy soundcard

maybe a desktop mic stand

maybe a pop filter for the mic

recommendations? thx.

Have u read the post around here? Which brand of a condensor mic are you looking for? Different places sell brands of mic. You can get your audigy from creative warehouse straight, best is to wait for sales (mid yr) coming, they always have sales. A decent mini desktop mixer - then again, what brand are you looking at? .. differrent places sell different. You can get your pop filter and stand at hung brothers at sim lim. Those two items are a must, theres gotta be a stand for a condensor, and you will need a pop filter.

yea i actually read quite a few of the threads but didnt find anything. i figured i couldnt possibly read evrything so i decided to make a new thread.

thx for the info on the soundcard, pop filter and mic stand. im quite noob so i dont even know the usual places to look for these things.

i dont really have any preferences about the mic, but if possible id like an MXL one. an alesis mixer would be cool too.

any ideas?

You can get the goods at sinamex. Or at SLS.

Actually, you don't really need a mixer, if you're gonna just do podcasting.

Don't get anything from Hung Brothers - they inflate their prices tremendously.

Try 'Anything Audio' at Parklane Mall for the pop filter.

There's this shop called 'Chun Sheng Trading Enterprise' on level 1 outside Sim Lim square that sells audio stuff at good prices - I strongly recommend a RODE NT1-A or NT 2 if you're looking at budget LD condensers.

hmm is hung expensive? i got super great disc from retail price from them. In fact they are cheaper than many shops...... One thing for sure their things are genuine unlike some shops who ah hem tried to sell me copies/fakes.

Rode Mics @ Hung Bros are among the cheapest in the world.

I bought a K2 tube condensor for (I think) $799 when the cheapest I could get it for from the US was $699 USD plus shipping. In Oz, where they are made, they are about $1399.

juz get a recording interface.... the large diaphram condenser and u are ready to go...

for recording interface... u can try firepod... 8 mic preamps, i might be getting that soon.... it runs with cubase... it's selling at 1130, but i think if u look hard enough u can find shops selling at 800+

or alternatively u can get the inspire also runs on cubase LE cost abt $316 selling at hung.. quite cheap though... it has got 4 mic preamps and blah blah blah...

(u can go presonus wesbite can check it out)

for mic u... if u are thinking for a gd vocal condenser.. plan to put in lots of $$....

for cheap way out... i think u can try SE or behringer mics...

if looking for a realli gd mic.. try the neumann TLM 170 (5 switchable polar patterns).... i tried it before... very shiok..... sound realli great also.... but that mic cost abt $3k+

so..... gd luck.... :)

Studio Projects B1 is a viable option .. 200 bucks at Esden. I have one, it's really clear, just that don't have the expensive silky mic sound la.. but good enough for recording vocals, so podcasting shld be no problem.

james is there a place where i can find the actual spec of that USB mic....
or a local dealer that bring in this kind of mic... i don't hv taking a gd look at the actual mic...

Take out the Audigy soundcard man, they ain't really right for production unless you want to play games. Don't go PCI anymore unless you want to stress yourself big time on PC problems or if you are really computer savvy. Check out audio interface brands like Presonus, Tascam, Motu etc.... nowadays USB and Firewire doesn't give out much latency due to computer fast speed. The myth of latency is really over!!!
