Hey guys! I need to consult you guys on my guitar HIGH action strings. I went to HIGHER my guitar strings action. I wonder if it will do good to me cause I use to play smoothly then now Im like a noob again. I wonder if I should lower the action back. And another thing I want to know is if I could adapt to the strings fast enough cause I'v got guitar lesson next week and my teacher wants to see me play the song I'v been practising so I dont want to suc cause I'v never practise, cause I'v higher the strings.

some like higher action so they can dig in the strings/play harder on it to get the "feel" out of it when playing while some prefer lower action that make playing easier with light touches etc.

So which one do you prefer?

If you feel uncomfortable, lower back the action since you also said that you feel like a noob again on not being able to handle the guitar how you used to.

but with high actions some ppl say it can train your fingers and Pros play with all kinds of actions... So Im thinking since Pro can handle HIGH then should I take the test and go through it though its a tough journey! Like Malmstem... he can shred on a classical guitar.... WTH!

heh, between easy playing and training finger, its time to make a decision and do it for yourself, this time, just one time and after that, you can concentrate on playing and getting used to changes.

imho

Training Fingers! YEA! but another question normally how long do people take to adapte to the changes cause I'v got song to prac for my guitar lesson so cant wait for my fingers to adapte it slowly! After I'v changed to Squire I think I took afew days to adapt to the guitar don't know if it works the same for the string action. And so far been playing the whole day and I alrdy can see results. Hope it turns out well!

how long do i take to adapt, its the same as asking me how long do i take and you take to cum when we jack off at the same time!

It's up to your OWN body to and how fast on your OWN it can adapt...

Ya. True! Just need someone to confirm what I was thinking cause Highering the strings is really tough. So I need more people to firm up my decision beats a wrong turn. Cause I'm a impatiant dude! I guess I'v goto change if i really want to be a Pro! Patiance Lead to Sucess

heh, taylorboy, i like the way you put it, although rude, but true in someway...

hey trip, the period of getting used to it, takes time, according to different people. It can be like trying to finger barre chord. Some take few days, some take weeks to months till learning to play a song with plenty of barre chord and everything seem to be easier then plain practising of it not in a song context.

Just imho, if you want to train finger, let the action remained, play the guitar normally, dont forced or over play to get used to it. Sometime, the more you struggle with the instrument, the less efficient is the result and you will get frustrated and nothing get done in the end.

Playing will suffer initially as you will have to build up the finger strength, re adjustment of fingering to suit the higher action etc. Its normal. DOnt have to rush or play till the finger is too numb to feel the pain. Some pain is necessary, but not untill you cant even enjoy playing the instrument..
Again, this will take time, from weeks to months. Dont have to rush.

heh, and if you dont want the above, you can adjust back the action to previously, continue to play and learn. There is nothing wrong in this also. Its just your preference of play and no one shud take that away from you. Afterall, its your preference and you playing the guitar, not me or anyone else playing it.

Ok, wrote too much. Imho. Dont take it too seriously or believe everything, just read and think in your own way how you want to interpret. If it sounds dumb, so be it. If theres something usefull out of it, can take it and go on from there, in your own thinking..

Choosing of action. This shoulden't be touted as a "Train finger" or "Play easier" thing. Action is a very personal thing to each player and it varies amongst all of us, choose what works for you and stick with it. Its not like weights or dumb bells where the heavier you lift the stronger you are.

Your technique has little to do with action, if you can pull it off, you'll pull it off regardless of action.

Find an action which works for you, comfortable, stick with it and play on! 8)

IMHO, a higher action sounds better. Harder to play, yes, but I've always felt that it lets the strings ring better.

And yes, action is a very personal preference..

just change it back.

anyway, the way you've described it sounded like your action is raised TOO high, higher than our "high" standards.

did you diy?

Nope someone did it for me. Anyway guys I think more logical answers would help on why HIGH or LOW is good. E.g. Like HIGH actions rings better? Cause HIGHER actions can let it sounds better or other benifits then I'll stick to high. If we talk bout comfort I guess just a matter of time we will get used to it so I'd prefer you guys can tell me something else. Thx

Hmm.

Please do not forget that high action could also translate into bad intonation, i.e your notes will be slightly out of tune beyond the 12th fret. General rule of thumb is to adjust the action low enough so that the strings don't buzz even if you whack relatively hard. However even if the fret buzz does not come out through the amp, then you're pretty much good to go.
