Any recommendations on Hi-hats?

I've shortlisted quite a few actually.

13" Sabian HHX Manhattan Jazz Hats
13" Sabian HHX Groove Hats
13" K Light Hats
14" Bosphorus Stanton Moore Fat Hats
14" Bosphorus New Orleans Hats

I'm basically looking for versatile hats with a nice chick and a pretty solid stick definition, crisp and articulate. i really dig the above list, but would really help if there are any more alternatives, especially from the turkish companies like Bosphorus, Istanbul Mehmet, Istanbul Agop, Turkish and so on.

Thanks for your time!

I juz like the way Sabian cymbals sounds....LOVE it...tho i do not own a Sabian cymbal yet...Ex la...cannot tahan....bt i like the way it sounds.... :D

My vote goes to the Groove Hats. I own a 14" pair and I absolutely love it. Nice chic and solid stick definition. Versatile too. No regrets at all! :D

Im a fan of the K light hats. I really love the sound. and the finish too! heh.
But yes i ve tried the groove hats too, i d vouch for it as well. I wonder if music lab has any cool hats

14" a custom mastersound!!! wooo... fell in love with it when the 2005 over 18 division winner used it.

i think chewy is selling the dark energy 14" hats too.. dark, very chicky, articulate and medium-loud.

sorry to mess up your shortlist. but A Series NewBeats. Versatility and branding. The most widely recorded hats. If u wanna experiment a little. Try a A Custom mastersound bottom with any 14" heavy crash on the top.

marc: chewy's hats are wayyyyy out of my current budget. i could well afford say the sabian hats now, but definitely not chewy's fo' sho.

i was over at malacca with my dad today to settle some property stuff. went to this really cluttered music shop and found like a pair of A New Beats. Used and real dirty, but sounded awesome! Owner said not for sale though, it's part of the drumkits they rent out for functions. ugh. tough luck. they had a pair of green stamp paiste 101 hats too, which were pretty cool.

and a stambul crash. STAMBUL for goodness' sake!

tried to nego for the new beats hats and stambul crash, but he just wouldnt take it. bahh

i love zildjian through and through, but the killer pricing! ugh. and the sabian hats interest me quite a damn fair bit!

thanks for all the response! keep 'em coming, please!

yalor... i find new beats not only good for playing/practice, it hold up well in recording too... it sounds more mellow and 'perfect' when aged....

if can find any used new beats in uncracked condition faster grab... come to think of it, i've never seen a cracked new beat before... not even those super beat up swee lee/boon ones

otherwise, k lights is super delicious too.... a different and interesting sound for 2008 and beyond.....

cheers

yup the new beats are solid man, both physically and musically. too bad, i knew i couldnt pass up on that chance, but ugh he just wouldnt take my offer!

and talking about the karang guni dude, i still cant accept the fact that i used to walk past his shop at clarke quay almost every sunday about 3 years back! SNAP!

I heard reviews before the K light lacks bite. Paiste DE hats are good choice, for Sabian, AAX-celerator hats getting lots of thumbs up perhaps should look into that as well. As for Zildjian, any hats from the K line is really good. K Mastersounds are really dark and have a real chic, great for jazz but K or the K/Z will serve general purpose playing better IMO. Best is you try out (if possible) and see what suits you better. Hats is your most commonly used cymbal even than the ride so no harm taking the trouble to look around yeah.

uh recently chewy was selling aax stage hats... for 119 bucks only!! ridiculous buy!!

anything from the AAX line is worht getting... AAX-celerator is really awesome too...

well bro jasper, best is to wait for a really good deal to come... i'll help u scout too. :D

I know 2 of my friends here that have New Beats and i've seen them play their hats in gigs. Without any proper micing system, the hats really cut through all distorted guitar and loud amp.

But i'd prefer the dryness of K hats.

i, too, prefer the dryness of the Ks. zildjians are insanely priced here though, and not to mention the ever-limited stock in yamaha.

i prefer the HHX X-celerators to the AAX though, i prefer darker sounds. but i agree, the X-celerator line is quite amazing.

i love the DE hats chewy's selling but currently they're out of my budget. if not i'd get for sure!

any bosphorus/turkish/istanbuls to recommend? (: too bad istanbul agops are pretty much limited here in singapore, they have some really quality hats!

wahahahah marc da... wat r u suggesting man....

if end of the day u really can't help it, just bite the bullet and grab a new pair .... take it as a 10-year investment.... if u need help to try different pairs to (no matter how, every cymbal does sound a little different) let me know, i meet u there and help u manhandle the yamaha staff...shhhhh hehe
