This sounds abit weird, but is there any way that i can showcase my talent to companies like Universal Music or Song BMG Singapore and see if they could offer me a contract? I'm an experience singer and had perform in couples of event and won couple of competitions too.

NewArtist? : welcome to SOFT , have some video recordings or audio demos of yourself performing etc, then probably send to some PR fella at the labels you mentioned.

If you send in your demo CD to any of the major labels you mentioned they will head straight into the trash can, major labels don't accept unsolicited demos.

Your best bet is Singapore Idol. Or you can promote yourself and build as much contacts as you can. If you meet the right people, gain significant buzz and hype, record labels will take notice and things can go from there.

as a former label chief in an international chain ... I can say .. you are 100% RIGHT ....

NewArtist : I haven't heard you sung yet, but if you have true talent and their PR just dumps your demo.. I have a saying : "A current rejection makes room for a bigger opportunity with someone else." keep working hard, when the time comes another bigger international label spots you, gets you. and the one-who-rejected-you-earlier comes suckin up to you with proposals and stuff, you know what to do with his/her "demo proposal" =) best of luck and don't stop believing.

P.S : remember to use eco friendly recycleable materials for your demo CD. so if it does head into the trash can you're still doing a great deed.

Thanks alot guys. I really appreciate your views and opinions. I'll just send my demo and at the same time create a youtube acc and cover songs. (:

Many people misunderstand. The major labels don't set these demo policies because they want to spite you and keep you away from your dreams. They don't accept unsolicited demos for legal reasons - they worry about people sending them demos, and then later suing them, claiming their songs have been stolen.

Smaller but popular labels might accept unsolicited demos but they all have their demo policies. A label creates a demo policy so they have a way of managing the deluge of demos that they cope with every single day. The policy they have in place gives them a way to make sure every demo gets some attention. If you try to circumvent the demo policy, not only will you not win any friends at the label HQ, it's very likely your demo will get less attention than it would have if you had complied with their requests (if it gets any attention at all - most labels have a way of dealing with people who ignore their demo policies, and it involves the trash can/delete button).
