argh, just twisted one of my treble pots too hard, and there was a 'piak' sound coming from it, the next thing i knew, the whole knob was loose..

i've called up many shops and what they believe is that there's internal wiring problems and repair would cost 50 bucks..

wow.. 50 bucks for just one pot.. does anyone do repair for this at a relatively good price?

did the knob just come loose from the pot?

Try lifting up the knob and see if the pot below it is still working. If that is so, you just need to screw the knob back on the shaft of the pot. (if there is a screw. some rubber knobs are just forced down on the shaft of the pot.

If that doesn work, then probably you need to change the pot. Just buy an allparts pot of the same value and get someone to solder it for you.

pot = short for potentiometer (the variable resistor you learn in physics in sch)

i suggest u borrow a soldering iron and buy a pot from sim lim tower. its abt $3ish. i bought a 500k volume pot from there, but had a friend to solder.

hi bro, thanks for the quick reply. ok i've tried pulling it out, but i cant seem to pull it out. the screws around it are really tight too, havent had any luck. i've taken a pic, maybe you could see it better..

dude

i hope you won't pull it out.

there are screws on the side of the metal knob, that would take out the knob, leaving this little cog thing. to take out the pot, u have to unscrew the entire control panel.

the screws can be unloosened. but don't twist and turn till you bend the metal bits and lose the cross shape. then you'll be in big trouble.

well, if u don't feel confident enough, just bring it down to a guitar tech.

okay i've managed to unscrew without damaging them :D

what do i do now?

u'll need to take out that metal knob. there's a screw alongside of the knob. u can unscrew that and take it out. a small thinner shaft should be there. if u can turn that, then i think its just the knob that's broken and not the pot. if u find the shaft is shaky then its most likely the pot that's damaged.

for replacement of damaged pot: for the wires, u'll need to get a soldering gun to unsolder the wires.

+1. If u feel confident with a soldering iron, just replace the pot yourself. If not, u'll have the peace of mind sending it to the repair shop. =)
