Help with Tenor Range.

I am a typical Tenor, my range is from C, the C one octave below middle C, to the G# above middle C.

I've been doing my own vocal scaling and training (to expand range) and I notice from F to G# I am straining my voice (which is considered unhealthy). Above which, I need to switch to falsetto and my voice quality change dramatically from my typical bright nasal sound to airy.

I notice that singing high notes at D,E,F,G I experience vibration at my head area (more specifically the nasal area and some chest vibration), which I assume is already head voice.(Please clarify)

I am wondering if I should continue to push higher to avoid the weak sounding falsetto.

If yes, what is the note a Typical Tenor can hit using Head Voice before having to switch to Falsetto.

first of all i think you are getting the misconception of head voice and falsetto.

read up here http://singinghow.com/how-to-sing-high-notes/

to put it briefly, in the popular belief, there are two voices. chest voice and head voice. why they are called those is because of the resonation that are felt on those areas. low notes, you will feel your chest vibrates/resonates. high notes, your head vibrates.

now falsetto is a STYLE. it is not another mode or range. its IN your head voice. last I check I can hit G#4 on the piano.
what you may want to do is to learn how to make that falsetto, a strong one.

definition of falsetto: A method of singing that uses a lot of air escaping thru the vocal folds. your glottis is opened to much. aesthetically, it has a windy sound to it. head voice is a term related to resonant space. falsetto is the physiology of your larynx. how it is shaped.

hope this clears some confusion
