Hey Fellow Softies!
Im a guitarist of about 2 years plus playing, Really love music but would like to pickup keyboards as a secondary instrument.
Any reccomendations for keyboards for begginners? My budget is 350 as Im looking for a slightly higher quality keyboard, also how different is playing keyboard from piano? if I learn to play keyboard can I automatically be able to play piano? and is it also neccessary to buy sustain pedals for keyboards if I want to learn how to play?
I know heaps about guitars and guitar efx/sounds but Im a complete nooblet to keyboard stuff...
please help guys!
Cheers!!

probably something of the psr series keyboards from yamaha. in a sense u could say dat u can play the piano. usually for keyboardist they dun really juz play the piano. they could multi task by playing pads, bass, synths, piano, e piano and stuff becoz keyboard is able to split. so ur left hand could play bass or sth, den ur right hand does the strings/pads or piano. i would recommend a sustain pedal if u wan to learn piano techniques as pedaling is important and learning it from the start will be better and easier.

1. Keyboard playing and piano playing are very different. You may not be able to play the piano well if you start with a keyboard (esp for the non-weighted ones).

2. I don't recommend using sustain pedals when starting to learn. It messes up everything. Always get the fingers right first. Then later on, sustain pedal can come in. Problem with many keyboardists today is that they simply over-pedal - or should I say I've heard many who just step the sustain pedal and never release it. Might as well just tie the sustain pedal down with a tape and leave it...

The choice of instrument (digital keyboard or acoustic piano) depends on the type of music you intend to play.

Hi lilbrisket, perhaps you'd wanna share what you would want out of learning music keyboarding. Asking questions the way you did and setting budget is not a good way to start as you might find yourself disappointed with the decision you make, especially if expectations are not met. :)

hi pal,

i'm reply to ur msg as i do not want u to end up making the wrong choice. which is kinna what i did previously. i purchase a non-weighted keyboard many years back and sign up for those keyboard courses which uses porta sounds with accompliments. then later on i find out that to really play pop songs etc u'll probably need to join piano classes. i think MOST of the schools uses piano to teach and thats a very big difference from non-weighted keyboard. piano take quite a long time to learn also. a budget of 350 i guess can onli get u a very common non-weighted keyboard. good news is that u can check out HARK MUSIC website. if i'm not wrong, they have pop improvisation keyboard courses. chk them out before u decide.
