Help needed on Korg K25 to work with Audacity

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm actually a guitarist by nature but I'm trying to experiment with new instruments to expand my possibilities. Recently I just bought a Korg K25 USB-MIDI controller. After installing the driver and software, I find that I have no problems playing it as my laptop can pickup the MIDI signal via the USB connection. However, problems arise when I launch Audacity to record tracks. I have no problems using it to record guitar tracks via my Digitech RP250 but it is just unable to pick up anything from my K25.

I've tried changing the settings and preferences but it's still no go. Can anyone out there shed some light to my situation?

oh hi, I bought a Korg K25 too last month
hoping the top left hand X-Y joystick can
move patches for the Wavestation SR module; but
unfortuntately what it does best is like a mouse ???

ok, for your scenario, I bet the Audacity must be configured
first to communicate with the K25, is it done ? I believe it's the
MIDI configuration.

after I look through Audacity website, looks like Audacity
is an audio editor and recorder software, it doesn't has MIDI;
just liked Pro Tools in the early days.

I'm wondering what are you trying to record?
the only patches from the K25 are from M1 le (KCL DE)
and the sounds you trigger on the K25 is coming out
from your PC sound card. So in the first place, how does
Audacity pick up audio signal from the Digitech RP250 ???

I'm unfamiliar about Digitech RP250, you may want to tell
us how is the signal transmitted from your guitar
to Audacity? via USB or input to your PC soundcard?

In software like Cubase, software instruments plug-ins
are added via VST and in Pro Tools via RTAS.

Do let us know more of your setup for us to solve your problem.

Hi, thanks for your speedy assessment. After going through the software again, I think you're right...Audacity doesn't seem to support MIDI input...it can only import MIDI tracks. Looks like I will have to explore other software to do my recordings. Do you have any recommendations?

I was actually trying to record a piano accompaniment for a song my friends and I are recording. I was hoping that I can use the M1Le software for the sound I need and record via Audacity. I used to have a cheap MusicStar MIDI keyboard that I can use with my old Soundblaster Live Value card and I record with CoolEdit Pro.

The Digitech RP250 is connected to my laptop via USB. After I install the driver, I just connect my guitar to the RP250 and it to my laptop but I use headphones connected to my RP250 to listen to my own playing. Audacity is able to detect my RP250 with no problems and will record whatever I am playing.

with your explanation, I'm still not too sure
but you might want to explore the idea of importing
MIDI tracks for it might work.

read the software manual for other ways
to do it, there could be a way.

look - the problem now is in other software such as
Cubase, the M1 le must be launched as a VSTi then
you can record to the audio software.

whereas in Pro Tools, M1 le must be launched as a RTAS
plug-in then you can record the keyboard parts.

there is a wide range of music software available.

As a guitarist, you may want to consider
Pro Tools M-Powered, you need to buy the
software and a M-Powered suppoerted soundcard or audiophile.

Pro Tools M-Powered cost: $550 ++ ??
M-Powered suppoerted soundcard or audiophile: $200-500 ++

Pro Tools M-Powered software and hardware sold by Sinamex.
so check out www.m-audio.com and www.digidesign.com

of course there are other software around,
these are giants in the industry:
Cakewalk Sonar
Logic Pro (mac only)
MOTU digital performer (mac only)
Steinberg Cubase
Digidesign Pro Tools

I recommend the Pro Tools M-Powered since you are a guitarist.
However, there are other choice as well.
