help needed on getting a snare!

hey guys whats are good snare i should try out?

i like a very punchy snare sound, very funky kinda vibe to it. also, looking for something versatile. i dunno. i never ever had a good snare. the one im using was the "stock" snare from my drumkit. anyone got any good recommendations? any input is wholly appreciated.

but i've tried the Neil pert's signature snare and its wonderful man!!

I'd say a good price gauge for a quality snare would be the same range for a pair of quality double pedals. About $300-$500++ without sale. E.g, the Omar went for $240+ during Swee Lee's sale. There was once a Pearl SMX snare in the luthermusic forum, going for $170, I still regret not getting that to try.

These snares, are kinda like the standard, non-exotic ones that people usually start from when they're going for their first non-stock snare. (From what I've read on forums and stuff)

hey weckl-x thanks so much for the suggestions haha. i'll probably get one of those snares and try out 1st before increasing my collection. that is, if i find the $$ haha.

Hey Melvin! you might wanna wait for the SL sale and try the Tama Starclassic or artwood series, or the Pearl Reference series (20 ply :lol: ) or Signature series e.g. virgil donati. I tink Mapex snares are pretty solid too. But it really depends on what type of sound you are looking for and which shell materials you intend to get e.g maple, birch, bubinga, brass etc cos each has its own distinct characteristics. Do try out the various snares in the market and hope u'll find your dream snare soon!

threadstarter, for a good quality snare, than definately the price won't be so straight lah alamak...

the neil peart signature is 2k not 1k plus...

u want good snare, than invest lah, if not than like what hozea listed, those snares are quite good.

hey i've played the maple black P with the brass die cast hoops, excellant snare. in aussie my friend bought it for 450aud, in sing fist hand i'm thinking 600 to 700

hey sorry to digress a little i just bought a 13" by 3" pearl snare. it cost me like 280 (294 with tax. sodding gst). anyone know where i can get a reasonably priced snare case? i just started playing in gigs and i was thinking it'd be good to take both my pedals and snare. anyone??

Yup, Ranking will have RoadReady (Their own brand), and Yamaha (music plaza) should have some Gator soft cases.
