Help!!!! Fret oxidation!!!!

steel wool is like sand paper, use it to make the surface smooth, just different surfaces require different materials
the 00000 is the fineness of the steel wool, if u use a very rough one u could expect to get a rougher surface result compared to a finer one.

Steel wool=the thing your maid/mum uses to scrub burnt food off the bottom of the saucepan, i believe. I dunno abt the 000000, maybe the fine-ness or sth like that?

Not exactly true. Steel wool 00000 is the finest form used to dig out dirt from porous wood like rosewood. normal steel wool can buy from NTUC but that one is used for scrubbing burnt food off a pan. lemon oil loosens the dirt within the pores hence making it easier to clean. you get go to HomeFix and buy both items.

cannot use steel wool sand down/polish paint on a guitar body. the roughness a little inconsistent. sandpaper the way to go. however if you are talking about matt finish, steel wool 00000 MIGHT prove to be useful in the finish department.

is the steel wool00000 expensive?
erm about polishing and the roughness part you mention.. and the cleaning of the rosewood fingerboard..
wouldnt take make it possible to lose wood while unearthing the dirt from the wood grains of the rosewood fingerboard?
pardon me for asking noobie maintenance questions haha only care i did for my fretboard and guitar body/neck is duckaxwax lol.. with that said my fingerboards getting alil dirty and its kinda frustrating

compare it to shampooing hair. sure a few strands are going to drop out every time but it'd take years before obvious signs of balding show. same theory applies onto your fingerboard. I'd be lying if I claimed that there is no such thing as wood loss when it comes to cleaning your fretboard using steel wool but the damage is really close to insignificant & it's probably the best way to remove all that dead skin and dirt stuck within the pores. on top of all that, it'd most definitely remove the oxidation at the same time.

btw, most if not all guitar stores use this method. just remember to have a lot of kitchen paper on standby to wipe off the excess oil.

last but not least, for rosewood not maple. there is a difference I cannot stress enough.

haha okok.. will try getting some steelwool im time to come.. it's pretty annoying when u see tiny flakes of dead skin or dirt between the frets and wood argg..

no choice gotta always polish your frets each time u change strings if u dont like the oxidation. you could blame it on the high humidity singapore has or how reactive the nickel silver is to the air. get stainless steel frets, they dont have that issue, but thats another can of worms for another day.

for me i use brasso and a cloth and use masking tape to cover the board when im having a go at the frets.

+1 for brasso and masking tape.

Cheap and effective, bought a can couple years back and still using it.
