HELP! Buyers that complain about the item you sold them only after a few days...

hi guys,

I was wondering if something similar had happened to you and how did u all resolve it?Is it just my luck?

This is the second time i have encountered this problem. The first was when i sold a power unit to a fellow softie, but he only complained abt the product after more than a week and said it was faulty. I deal-ed with his friend and he passed it to him after that, so the item changed a few hands before getting to him... Well, it was resolved eventually but there comes this recent encounter...

I sold an amp to another member, after 3 days, he sent me an sms saying the on/off LED light was not working(which was the one and only LED on the small tube amp). He claimed that he did not know if the LED on a tube amp would light up when on, since it was the first one he had. He demanded that i go collect the amp and repair it. Would you accept this, knowing that you tested the item( and it was perfectly fine!) before selling and it was in mint condition (with product tags still on)?

I agreed to even split half the cost of repair, giving the benefit of doubt but he demanded more than that. What would u all do considering these circumstances? ( He is now threatening to go to the "relevant" authorities)

I have had so far sold and traded more than 70 items in the past 2-3 yrs and these are the few cases that i am really irritated abt, not counting my fair share of unreasonable lowballers and peolple who dont turn up on the very day of the deal.

HELP!

next time maybe put a note in your ads "once sold, after two days, don't bother contacting me. its your business if it decides to spoil after day 3"

EDIT: i think its a recent thing, last three times i sold stuff the buyers would sms back after a couple of days "eh, the ____ you sold to me spoilt leh" or "i think you gave me something wrong, it doesn't work" only to find out that its something else irrelevant to what i sold them.

Unless it is something I totally forgot to specify on my ad, e.g. "paint chip @ headstock", I would not bother with them. IF the problem lies with me, I take full responsibility.

I do a video demo on my phone that shows the time, date and working condition of the gear I am letting go. Maybe you should try that? In case they say "how you so sure it works?"

I have a 3-day exchange policy for these kinda issues (if the item is not to their liking due to taste, won't allow changing).

in any buying/ selling, there should be some terms of agreement (it's a legal contract anyway...). you can set your terms which include any exchange policy thereafter but make sure it's fair to you & the buyer ('fair' is subjective, from experience, mutual respect worked more than anything else).

Bravery, courage to own up, are never ur virtues, eh? U think u haf the upper hand by seeking solace with the other peeps here who hafnt heard my side of the story? Dear me. Oh, btw, im not threatening, i AM going to the relevant authorities. Oh n btw peeps, deal with this 'Marked' guy at ur own risk. Dont say i didnt warn u... AND YES, im a civic-minded, soft-loving dude who wld naturally go to the police if we r tricked, rite? All the best, Mr Marked...

Peeps, pls let this thread die off. I believe all personal arguments shld be settled personally. d:-D

there's no upper hand bro, only enlightenment through revelations; we are open to both sides of the episode. but at the end of the day, a good product traded should not manifest further entailment. please do not think we are taking sides here.

This is starting to sound way too immature, yea just let this thread die out. I already got the advice i need. thanks guys...

i'm saddened by such bitter trading episodes, really. because when James started SOFT, it was intended to bring the small, gear-infatuated community together for a positive cause. the last thing we want to read here would be exchanges between parties who were privy to an exclusive misunderstanding- we weren't there when the trade took place so the gravity of the matter might be swayed by what's documented here. peace, everyone

I think given personal warranty works best. I usually give my buyers 24hrs personal warranty for defects if there was no testing involved. if tested then once out the door means sold and no returns.

oh yeah...
there is a difference between warranty and guarantee..

:)

Yeap, same as junkiemanxl.. After I deal, I'll tell the buyer to go home and test it, and let me know if there is any problem on the same day itself.
