Heavy Metal Or Distortion Or Chorus Pedal for Les Paul?

hi i oftenly use my les paul to play sweet child o' mine. i had tried Beta Aivin's HM-100, good sound produced that i want of Guns N' Roses. But, do heavy metal pedal suits les paul? What do chorus pedal do actually? And ah, Beta Aivin HM-100 Or HM-200 better? an additional $10 for HM-100 to HM-200

First things first, you only play one song on your les paul? o_O Secondly, ignore any label on the pedal, if it sounds good to you, then it sounds good to you. Don't worry if the Ubermegabrootal Death Metal sounds good for playing the Beatles, if it sounds like it'll do the job you want it to then it suits you. Also, pedals don't suit the guitar. Pedals and amps may not always get along, but I've never heard of a pedal not being compatible with a guitar.

Chorus question: http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Articles/Chorus/ It's a modulation, not at all what you're looking for if you're looking at HMs.

Last of all, try both pedals out. If it sounds better to you, or it allows you to tweak your sound more, the 10 dollars is totally worth it. You're already spending around a hundred dollars, what's another 10 dollars to get a higher-end one that you might regret not getting if you had gotten the cheaper one? However, more expensive does not always equal better. For all you know the HM-100 might sound better. Try both of them out extensively to be sure. Hope i helped.

dude , firstly after playing Sweet child over 20 live shows ... I've learnt to hate that song hahaha so learn a diversity of songs man .

What you are looking for is that Slash sound , now he doesn't use much pedals though but here's a trick after months and months of trying and spending money hahah .

Slash uses a low output pickup , the Seymour Duncan Alnico pro 2 pickups to give him that sweet sound , topped with a high gain amplifier (His signature Marshall) But he runs it through a complicated series of 3 other marshall cabs , and i think that includes a JCM 800 and a Sliver Jubilee(which btw is the best marshall amp ever made) .

For his pedals , He used an old school cheapo Boss multi effects pedal to get that delay you hear on 'Welcome to the Jungle' , He uses a Boss Chorus on the entry to 'Paradise city' and his Boss or currently with Velvet Revolver , an MXR 10 band EQ which is set to boost his mid range ( i do the opposite though)

For his solo's , the wah parts .... he uses a Dunlop customshop CryBabt rack mounted wah controlled by an Earnie Ball volume pedal , he has a few of these lying around stage waiting for him to rock that baby back and fourth but he does have his signature wah by Dunlop as well

Its not so much of effects pedals that he uses , Slash focuses on wiring , loads and loads of them .

So yes get a high gain pedal e.g

.

Sweet child of mine has a spring reverb at the start if you notice (its the Marshall's spring reverb), get a good reverb pedal ... I'd recommend the Electro Harmonic Holy Grail cause its cheap and good .

so here it is ,

Distortion pedal , well try the MI Audio Crunch box man that thing packs a punch -$225 but yeah heavy metal then go for the Zvex Box of Metal - $450
Chorus Boss CH-1 super chorus - $135
Reverb , Holy Grail - $200
Delay , Boss DD-3 (good enough la) $150(second hand i guess)
Wah (slash has a signature btw) Jim Dunlop Slash signature wah -$300

Pedals alone are gonna cost you at least $1200

Amps , JCM 800 head - $2100
cabs are cheap , like 800 bucks each

so total , thats gonna set you back by at least 4k total , not forgetting your les paul ( slash signaures are about 4ksgd) yupp so 8k to sound like Slash , oh and you're probably gonna have to try and play like him too

All the best bro , this is to the best of my knowledge

Seeing how he mentioned HM-100 and HM-200, I have grave doubts about the budget he has available. A great break down, nonetheless.

And the last part of your advice is probably the best part, heh.

heh no of course, i want the sound of GnR, wery nice for most songs for me i think. I'm still studying men! and i couldn't afford so much for a guitar, as a hobby or interest instead of full time erm... job? Heh sorry for my ignorance That's really a detailed reply by zax, very much thanks for you :)

distortion. AND +1 to learning more songs. Yes, you can show off how good your sweet child o mine is, only to layman. When someone who play guitar hears it, the person will be turned off. I'm serious.

No experience with the HM-100, but the HM-200 is very versatile, I can get great Poison and Guns 'N' Roses tone out of it. And it's very powerful, definitely gets a recommendation from me. I own one and have used it for a year plus now, never saw the need to replace it.
