Heavy gauge strings on rgt42dx?

hey i know this is stupid but ive got a rgt42 recently and im using drop b tuning.so far its ok but im thinkin of tryin Ab Db Ab Db Gb Bb tuning which is hell even lower still.the prob is the floyd rose thing on the rgt42,which cant really take heavier gauge strings without having it's rear sticking up in the air.i read somewhere ive got to either get a baritone guitar or increase the number of tremolo springs in my rgt42dx.would this break the neck of my rgt42?i mean the tension would be enormous on the neck right?

If you are detunning, it makes sense to get higher guage strings in order to maintain some string tension. Otherwise your strings will flop around.

So, its a give and take thing... Higher guage equals higher tension but the amount you tune down, takes a lot of the tension away.

The RGT42DX has a Wizard II neck... its pretty thin but it should be able to handle 0.11 guage strings at standard tuning okay. Of course you will have to add some springs to the floyd to compensate.

What guage strings are you using now? Note you are tuning down a lot so you really don't need to worry about breaking the neck or string... unless you tell me you are using .2 guage strings.

I tune down also actually.. But not as low as your tuning. You should have gotten the mike mushok Ibanez . The guitar is great for really low tunings. :D Try using 13's or 14's. Slipknot uses 13's for their DROP B tuning. Dark Tranquillity Uses 13's for C# tuning. Anyway's I haven't got the chance to bump into these string gauges b4 also in spore. :P

gee thanks man for all the replies!really helped!im using .10 gauge right now i think.but what shud i use for Ab tuning?i got the rgt42 instead cuz it was ard my budget.the mike mushok one would've been great but its 1.8k !

haha icc... yeah you should settle for 13's first..its really THICK~!! You'll need to some time to get used to it. The Third string will come with a wounded and an unwounded one.If it's still loose and sagging u can try 14's or sumting... But i think you'll need to readjust ur action, intonation and the springs for the floyd also.. :D

Bro, you are only using 10s now and you are freaking out? ;)

I would assume you like using your 10s with your drop B tunings? If thats the case, you should just up it to .11s and use your drop Ab tuning, in order to retain the tension of your current setup.

system dont understand why the floyd it's rear sticking up in the air..
its only a .10 gauge and on a b tuning...
u probably need to re set up as mention by WiZaRd.

i would get a thicker gauge for a B or Ab tuning...as some as advise...

is the guitar new?Ibanez factory set up is a .09 on an EB tuning..
so that could be the reason of the bridge sticking out.
try loosen all the strings and retune slowly one by one..
the spring need time to readjust to diff gauge..

penguin, ibanez guitars don't come in Eb tuning.. its standard tuning.

and system, if you need help with floyd tuning, i did up a simple how-to guide, its on SOFT.

no penguin,i tried .052 gauge and the rear stuck.i dunno wat gauge the high e was though!but for my current .010,there's no prob with drop b.just that i want to try Ab tuning

they use to be in eb tuning...

i tune in standard 440 E and my string are DR.52 low E and i dun have a problem..

if im not wrong ur trem is the TRS version right?...well if that the case u need the fourth spring....

have to tried loosen the string and tune again?

Ibanez has a more affordable baritone in its 2005 offerings, but it's not available here... the AX110XL

i dunno man mine is a egde pro 2 bridge i think.its just sticks up in the air when i try to tune the .052 strings.its mad.i even tried to tighten the trem springs but notihn happens.or maybe i have to slowly...remove one string then replace that string and tune it first, then proceed to remove the other string and repeat.but i cant try that now,my guitar wouldnt be with me till sunday.

if you have:

*put in more trem springs

*screw them in to increase the tension there

& if your bridge persistently protrudes more than it should, it means that your guitar cannot accommodate that gauge. regardless if you remove all strings at once/ individually, if your guitar can take it, then either method will work out.

well i havent added springs yet and i tighten the screws when the strings were still tight and "tuned" so maybe thats why the trem hardly moved .well how much would that guitar u showed me be?

well i'll try to get it right when i get my guitar back.im pretty sure it can handle a Ab tuning.i mean, some ppl tune to that and dont even own a baritone or seven string.
