Heads

Had a chance to play around with Samatyas when doin a recording in a studio. The first few words tat comes to mind when playin the hats are bright and sweet. Yea they are sweet-sounding and has a nice tone for budget cymbals. Definitely a great buy. The crash is ok but the ride is no slouch either. As compared to PST5, the PSTs have more bark and aggression and are uber-bright. Although both are musical, the Samatyas are more well-rounded in terms of tonal characteristics and frequency distribution.

Oooh i see, that was useful, thanks blissuicide!

Hmm anyway back to HEADS, anyone know what's the black colour head, looks really good, know where to buy them and how much?

ebony pinstripe i think. its hard to find at some point and they dont come cheap.

last i saw at sweelee a month back were all those odd sizes. $38 each.

also, those heads are made to give a lower sound i dunno not too sure.

Actually, it comes in various models, they are Ebony Pinstripe, Ebony Ambassador, Ebony Suede and Ebony Powerstroke3. As for Evans, their only black head is the Hydraulics. Yep, they look really good but of cos gota make sure that the sound created is wat u wan too.

hm...im curious how a ebony pinsripe sounds, looks sooo cool i think i'll get it together with my drumset (RT) once my parents approve ^^. Full set black yea! 8)

Haha yeah! I've got a RT too. gonna look so good, but i'm also interested in how it sounds. oh and the pearl cymbals that come along are like *urgh. saving for a basic cymbal set. samatya or PST5...

Sorry to burst the bubbles, but u will 'deaden' the sound if u use those heads wif an RT. Firstly, Pinstripe heads are meant to minimize sustain and couple tat wif the dual-ply of Ebony Pinstripe, wif one of the layers being 10mil thick, will further reduce resonant and reduce the liveliness of a tom. Its all fine and dandy wif normal toms but wif the nature of RT toms, which only has a single head or otherwise known as 'concert toms', the sustain of the drum has already been shortened and therefore, by adding those Ebony Pinstripes, they are gona kill the life out of those toms bigtime. For an ideal head on the RT, try to go for a normal single-ply. Or if u guys wan durability and a slightly warmer sound, go for a double-ply without any dampening effects. Hope tis helps in making ur decision, unless of cos, if u all put looks first, then its a different story..

Settle for the Ebony Ambassadors then cos its a single-ply wif no dampening or muffling effects and yup, they are available though not sure of current stock status.
