Headphones

Hey guys!

I've been searching around SOFT for information regarding noise cancellation headphones but i cant seem to find any hardware shops that carries it. What im intending to do is to have a metronome play through earphones and then have the headphones over to lower the volume of the drums. Not really keen on investing in a really expensive pair of headphones (cause im not going to use it to listen to music, just canceling out noise) but $20 and below is fine with me. I dont wanna get those earplugs that works and plays music cause i'll have to turn up my metronome when im playing and it's going to damage my ears over time.

Haven't really gotten the time to actually hunt around for those headphones so if any of you guys happen to know where it's sold, please kindly tell me! Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys!

noise cancellation earphones cancels constant back ground noises. as for the case of drums with loud impulses, it might not cancel those sounds effectively. i would suggest getting in-ear monitors instead, any type of in-ear earphones that fit your ears nicely would do, i've tried the creative E-630 and i find the rubbers quite comfortable and able to block out sound quite well, your metronome clicks would not be louder than what you would actually hear from your drums as the external sounds would be slightly muted, so don't worry, you need not blast them.

Yes, get good In-Ear Monitors as they'll effectively block out sound. $20's not going to get you anything useful in a headphone. But $20 might get you a cute pair of ear muffs to wear on top of your earphones :p

i've tried practicing with my in-ear earphones but i cant really hear the clicks unless i turn up the volume to around 70%. it sounds fine when i play because the drums leak through the earphones but it's still going to damage my ears when i hear the clicks at 70% that's why im intending to have those headphones to block out additional leaks so i can hear the clicks at around 50%.

i know i definitely cant get a good pair of functional headphones with $20 that's why im only looking for those that are used solely to block out the surrounding noise! Like those for construction sites, factories, airports etcetc. My in-ears are cancelling out noise pretty well already. Just need a pair of headphones for slightly more cancellation!

I've also considered ear monitors from the music lab but im not really sure of the price and it's not going to be cheap that's why im going for the cheaper alternative for the time being! haha.

Thanks alot! I'll go check it out! Maybe if they are cheap, i might consider getting a pair. Otherwise i'll probably save up to get in-ear monitors!

Thanks again!

This guy was my hero until i started feeling giddy(too tight)... GO FOR COMFORT. the key word is COMFORTABLE, Dont go Cheap to get something 20-30ish and end up feeling super uncomfortable after the 1st hour. This trick is to get something that fits snugly(abit tighter than snug is better, but cant find a word for it)
if you can put one finger in between them when your wearing it, and doesnt feel like its gonna snap off it should be good enough.

This trick works. but do the above stated... will work in the long run

Hmm, i was sourcing online from the link cheesedaele mentioned and i actually came across some 3M ear muffs. They look pretty fine and from a brand like 3M, im pretty sure it's up to standard. Might actually head down to their main store when i have the time! Im not really sure about the price range though but i saw from a U.S site and they were around 20 to 30++ so i believe it's close to 40 or so around here? Still an okay price for me i guess!

You could try the Audio Technica SJ-5, cost about $60. They sell it at Hung Brothers Sim Lim. Thats the only place I know that lets you test out headphones before buying. I use them and it cuts out most of the noise from outside. You can set the right volume to practice your drums with.

Im still going for ear muffs but if the earphones happen to be around the same price or cheaper, it would be a better choice to get the earphones right? provided they block out noise well! Haha. Im not a headphones person anyway so i doubt i'll be using headphones pretty often. Either way, i'll check both options out!
