I was walking past the place the other day and had to step in, it's become a cheena place now with old businessmen drinking XO and xiao mei mei singing oldie chinese songs. :(

I recently realised that some of the younger bands don't even know about Gas Haus (let's not even talk about IJ studios) and it's colourful stories.

you mean the rooms upstairs? they were decent for the first few months- the custom drum kit in the room to the far left was awesome!

after that people started thrashing the place, stealing straps, skins and what-have-yous, blowing amps...

Hell yeah..............i had my first gig at there under roy(XTREMEMUSIC) i wonder did they move or wat?? and where's roy anyway??

Anyway i still remember one thing bout that place. I ask the owner if they hav pedal e.g distortion or overdrive for the jamming. He answered me =.= but i can't understand his accent. All i can hear was the word , 'amp' and 'distortion' so from there i conclude that the amp has alr a distortion wif it...so yeah

Ive been wondering where ij have gone!!!!i performed at ij in 2006 it was viva la gig.great underground place.and it was our first gig outside school.i miss theplace but last i heard it was closed down.it was a shame.because ill hold a gig there any day of the week.anyone knows what happened to the rocker uncle(if im not wrong his name is wan and he plays kickass drums)?

Haha, my first gig was held there too.

Actually it wasn't the best place to hold a gig. But it's closed down and a suitable location for gigs had disappeared from the face of this Earth. Ah.

Does anyone know why it closed down?

Lol. Yes, MANY people do not know about Gas Haus. Quite sad. Ah, the good old days.
I played at Music Mania 5 i think? The poster stated the genre as "All girl punk rock" Wth. It was on Christmas eve. We were up quite early. 2nd band. Right after "A boy name Sue". But the crowd was fine la. We were nervous as hell, screwed up a bit. But the crowd did help us a lot like headbanging, clean moshing and singing along. They were playing some porno flick when we played i think. Hahaha. Overall a very memorable experience. Went to my house for Christmas dinner after that. Mom cooked good food! Hahaha whoa, i remembered so much.

We were supposed to play for the punk rock fest too. My friend and i formed a band just for the gig. Diamonds and Guns if anyone remembers. Hahaha. But we had to pull out the last minute tho. Roy got quite pissed. :\

Roy's a really nice dude anyway.

And remember that fat bartender with the accent? Forever flirting with girls.

And that a$$hole ang moh soundman. Forever throwing bands off stage.

Wahaha. Didn't realised few years have past. Yes, I think my first gig was at Gashaus too.

Some fragmented memories:
1)The bass drum has the Gashaus logo.
2)The wall has this signage that says "Customers are always wrong" (I remember something along this line)
3)The projection TV is just above the stage.
4)The projection TV usually screen Football channels.

Feel free to add on!

Any bands would like to share where they are performing these days?

haha i actually took a walk around inside for memory's sake. it looks completely different now

haha.yes2!!my band & i had our very first gig there.u can say that place was our very first stepping stone into the scene.although that place was sumtimes kinda sucky & you can never really tell the mood of that ang moh sound guy i have to admit that place is being missed.
& if there were no shows around to go on wkends you could always head down to gas haus to watch all the "fests" & stuff.now all i can see is a bunch of "sexy" chinese poster girls on the walls.haha

Ah. Those were the days.

I wonder if that skanky malay door chick ever got hold of her prozac before attaining unemployment status.

syed_zack: IJ studios is gone man. Bunch of brainless f***s created a ruckus, messed up the place and got someone pretty badly injured.

Yeah, apart from that, the owner has a hell of a lot of legal stuff to settle first with regards to the studio and also the JB branch..

wah everyone talking about gas haus like it was 10 years ago back in the day hahaha. But let's face it, the singapore music scene lost a decent gigging location ever since gas haus. music garage, beat merchants, home club.. they're all good but nothing so far has measured up to the crappy yet conducive environment that gas haus provided. and roy's a good organiser despite all the unfortunate pay-to-play bullshit that he got mercilessly caught up in.

one of the more memorable moments in gas haus that i remember was when there was a d-beat crusty type band on stage (i forget the name), and the sound man was as usual making lot of noise. then they pulled off this gem of a song

(mimic drum sound) deg tak deg tak deg tak deg tak "FUKK THE SOUNDMAN!!"

over and over again and imagine a whole crowd of 30-40 spiky haired chekered pants wearing chaining dangling patch sewed on every square inch of their clothes type punks screaming this shit. awesome.
