Ok so getting this s470..reccmomend me pickups? Going for a really heavy but smooth sound, metallica black album type.. dunno about the single coil - maiybe something for nice cleans...heavy metal guys..but no EMG..thinking duncan

Just to add on... if you want to go active, there is very very little space for the battery.. The ZR trem system has no space in the trem cavity unless you remove the tremsetter. So yeah, just make sure you got space for a 9v before you decide to use any active circuitry inside.

If you want Dimarzios, and want heavy heavy metal.

Try X2N in bridge and Super 2 in neck.

how can i test or hear pickups? casue buy ina box..

You can't... but add me to msn, i've got an S series guitar with Dimarzio Tonezone and Humbucker From Hell. I can demo them.

Plus, on http://music.download.com/Shredcows I have recordings... all of them except X2N Showcase (which features the Dimarzio X2N exclusively) were recorded with Dimarzio Breed in bridge and neck.

Listen and decide if you like that tone.

strictly not single coil - but a DiMarzio HS2 or HS3 sounds really good clean. (it's single coil sized.)

Ok so im thinking, after listening on duncan website to get a distortion in the neck and an invader in the brdige, and a hs-2 in the single coil slot..on a S470DQXM...will this rock my socks for lead work? :D

i simply have no idea man. my experience with guitars and pickups have so far been quite limited.. stuff I tried - Custom Staggered, JB Jr, Super Distortion, PAF Pro, Screaming Demon, Invader, Hot Rails. And on certain guitar woods and certain pickup positions only

All I can say is Invader would be bass heavy and I suppose very subjective in terms of tone. You like it or you hate it.

As for HS-2 I've watched Randolf use it on his Yamaha and I must say it's REALLY very good for cleans, considering it's not even a true singlecoil. Little quack or twang heard though. (Which I think you won't be interested since your preference is towards metal.).

well the next best thing i can do:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/index.php?

the SD forums are free for registration. Just post up your setup and inquire whether it's a good match. there're so many players there and they'll be more than likely to give you good advice. :)

hey, i got 2 duncan distortions installed on my hsh rg... they sound a little muddy, even when tone on guit is set to treble almost max and treble boost on amp. is there any remedy? or can change the tone pot or sth..
