Can i ask which is better for recording guitar on pc,
midi or from the line in ?

I've just gotten a digitech rp2000 and realise there's a midi in & out function ...
Which would be of better quality ??

anyone tried the midi to usb converters ?
was thinking of getting one coz most software like protools and Tracktion need MIDI input to use ...
wad are your coments ?

nebo1981, the midi connection is for sending midi signal such as control change or patch change. definitely not for recording audio signal to pc.

for audio recording, simply connect the output of your efx to the line in of your computer sound card.

ohhhh ~
Thanks James ~!
nearly bought the midi usb cable ...~
hahaha ~

erm...
dun mind me asking ...
why is it programs like cubase, native instruments & tracktion always ask for midi input ??

the midi function is mainly used to do sequencing. you can do a search for details of MIDI - Musical Instrument Digital Interface. But basically what it does is to allow equipment/instrument with this function to communicate with one another.

for example, a keyboard with MIDI will be able to Transmit and Recieve instruction to a Computer/Software that has the correct MIDI function/interface. when you press a note on the keyboard, it will send a set of information such as what note, duration, velocity(dynamic), after-touch, control change ...

sweet! MIDI! i've heard so much about it!

well yeah, after my lecturers droaned on about it every single week of "MIDI and computers" even tho its fairly simple...

haha NEBO!!! have u heard your old handphone ringtones? those for the Nokia 3100, 8250, etc... before the mp3 phones came out? now THOSE phones use MIDI files, thats WHY the ringtone is so "boring" (there's no "natural tonality", it sounds like a robot playing a robot-guitar. :?

its "needed" for pro-tools cuz u can sequence a MIDI track, like james said :D

so if u're a guitarist with his axe set up and his floorboard powered and all that, just know that you don't need MIDI. except for: pedals like volume control. patches. and some "digital stuff".

isn't MIDI fun? u can download free software off the net and play around with it. u can even create your own drum tracks with MIDI. 8)

yep, i think i'm ready for my MIDI exam. >.<

er nope. i'm in Lasalle SIA doing music tech. pretty much know some of the stuff already, but nowadays u need a paper to show that u know what u know. =|
