Guitar Recording Sounds Horrible!

Hi everyone,

I need your help on an issue which I am currently facing.

I just bought a webcam to record videos today. Its a Logitech HD C310. I record through *realtek HD audio input* not through the webcam mic. Means all the sounds recorded are from the computer, cant hear anything else going on in real life.

However, when i record a video and play it back i have 2 problems.

1) While I am recording, i turn on a backing track (or original song) and play along. But after recording, when i play it back, the backing track sounds louder than my guitar and i can barely hear my guitar playing. I have tried lowering the backing track but it reaches a point where i can barely hear the backing track and its difficult to play along.

2) The tone of the guitar live and when recorded sounds SO different. Any ideas why?

My setup - Guitar -> Korg ax3000g (multi efx pedal) -> computer -> amp (yes i use an amp as my speaker lol)

Please share your views! I really need help.

Thanks!

are you using any audio interface for the guitar to computer and within computer, any audio production software for the recording where you can multi track? One track with the backing track, another for the guitar input, it will be optimal for what you wanna do. After which just need to sync up the audio with the video from the webcam.

If just plugging the guitar into multifx into the comp directly, theres impedance mismatch and noise issue to deal with.

Within the ax3000g, is the amp and amp cab simulation switched on? If you are recording without using mic up on the amp, you need the amp/cab simulation to be on at least. Without it, the sound will be pretty harsh.

Theres some pretty good info on doing recording in the 2 links below, you might like to have a look over it

oh, bout using amp for the amplification, even though its not going to damage anything, the sound you hear out of the amp will not be the true reflection of the recording as the voicing of a guitar amp, is not meant for general audio playback.

IMO, you can use a 3rd party software like Audacity where you can control the volume of the 2 files which you can use to merge (ie. 1 sound file of your play recorded with the realtek and 1 sound file of your backing track)

just play the backing track on background and dont record it into the realtek while recording your play~

Wow, those are great advices, REP!

Thanks for the help, i will try recording again when i am free and let you guys know! :)

Big thanks again!

Hi,

how do you do that? I tried using auda city. I dragged the backing track into the program, then when i hit record again to record my guitar, it is recording the backing track as well.

I changed the preferences for audio input to = mic volume. Still have this problem.

Help

Its finally working!! Thanks a lot guys! The main problem was that i didnt uncheck stero mix, thus when recording, both the guitar and the audio from the computer was record.

Thanks again! You both were of GREAT help.

ha I just did some recording with audacity today and noticed this thread..

anyway you can go to edit >> preferences >> and choose to record from only whatever that is coming from the guitar side
