Alrighty!First of all.I'm new.But i know that my thread is kind similar to to thread titled 'Epiphone semi/hollows or similar' but.I dont wanna hi-jack his thread..So i made a new one.But it's kinda similar.

Alright.I'm can say newbie.I like playing Blues.So i decided to buy the Epiphone Les Paul Special at swee lee.That's approximately 299?But i saw a nicer model which is the Epiphone Dot.And i kinda fell in love with it.I saw the specs and it has humbuckers pickup's..Not that bad?As my friend told me Humbuckers are good.

So i like to play different genre's like sometimes metallica sort than ac/dc then sometimes john mayor and sometimes blink-182.
So my question is.Is the epiphone Dot.Capable of playing all this sort of genre?Like from punk rock to blues?

If you guys have any other recommended guitar over the Epiphone Dot which causes less than 1k.Feel free to comment!

And if so.Any recommended amplifiers?I wanted to look for a mirco cube but it's outta stock.

Thanks in advance!

the special ll is not bad,for yur info its also has humbuckers on it(its just opened).the epiphone dot is a semi-hollow body guitar,while the speical ll is a solid body.
google for the difference between semi-hollow and solid guitars.

i rather you go for the rally les paul at sv.very good comments on it.
able to play punk rock,blues suits your genre.(blink 182,john mayer).

Thanks for the quick replies people.
@Ex14
oh.but the online store says Pickups: 700T, 650R ?Anyway thanks for the info.

@Rendezvous
Yeah.I know the difference.But i kinda liked the semi hollow body better.Thats why i was planning to get the Dot.

Alright thanks anyway!Looks like i'm gonna get both now!I kinda like both the guitars.

And thanks once again for the quick replies.Cheers!+rep!

Those numbers are the pickup models. Their humbuckers, just different in whatever, magnet, coils, coil gauge, output...

Your gonna get both? Haha good job.

I was like you when I started, wanted to play all the Blink 182 songs and all the Young brothers music and downpick as fast as Hetfield and figure out how to PLAY like SRV.

You will find your footing young palawan. Alas, John Mayer was still in Berklee when I started~

Haha.Thanks.Now i know!I used to really REALLY like blink when i was in lower sec(around 2years ago?) Now i like AC/DC,John Mayor,Guns and roses etc.
Yeah both.Gonna take awhile to save though.
Now i'm reading theory on guitars.Learning about the scales and how to randomly make up a solo which fits in the music.

It's not random, but yes at the same time. You could call it improvising, but take in mind that when one solos, he does not play random notes. He plays music.

So even if it is random at this point in time, craft your timing, phrasing and touch to play a solo or melody that speaks and gives the song that edge. All the very best.

As my friend told me Humbuckers are good.

This is pretty bad advice. There's no such thing as "humbuckers good, single coils bad". It's just the sound you want. And John Mayer uses single coils. Also, why get both? Get one and get a much better amp instead.

humbuckers generally handle gain better, otherwise all pickups have their own characteristics and traits which are unique to them.

Four legs good, two legs bad? Hahahhaa...

John Mayer doesn't only use strats lah. He plays with ES335s and the spanking brand new EBMM 25th anniversary Guitar, which has 2 humbuckers. He still sounds the same though...:mrgreen:
