Chill out man, I know you are damn desparate to study with someone fast. Just take the time to look around, the more options you have the better.
There are quite a number of other guitar teacher's in Singapore which are also damn good, cheap and reputable.
I don't understand why you mentioned that Yamaha doesn't teach you lead guitar stuff, cause I've got friends whom have come from there and could really shred! Have you actually gone to the Yamaha Contempo school and spoken to the peoplle or teachers over there. A discussion in a forum can help you to look for sources but the actual sources are out there. You have go out and talk to people to in order to recieve more info.
I can provide you a list of guitarits/Teachers that I know of, whom I think from my point of view are good teachers and players. But if you're just gonna depend on one source of info, I think thats a bad way of making a decision. If anyone disagrees with names that I'll be listing please comment, its perfectly alright as this is only from my perspective of things. So here it is:
1. Justin Ho - need I say more
2. Paul Daniel - Cool guy; can really shred and teaches at his home. Saw him play live with MArty Friedman at the clinic; it was awesome!
3. Addy - Not too sure if he still teaches though, a friend of mine used to take lessons from him and mentioned that he was good; He plays at Bar None.
4. Sebastian - Last I remembered he was teaching at Mandeville Music School and playing for the Thomson Big Band (Wonder if they're still around)
5. Andrew - Used to play in the NUS Big Band; I'm not too sure if he's still in SG or in Boston. Teaches jazz mainly, a friend of Justin's.
6. Rick Smith - Last I remembered he was in charge of the NUS Big Band; Really Al Di Meola style. Jazz teacher; but his rates are a bit ex.
7. Imran - From Emmanual Music School (its a Music School in Bedok on top of the Pizza Hut outlet); My first guitar teacher, big fan of Satch and Van Halen.
8. Spencer - Teaches in Yamaha (Plaza Sing.); Nice friendly guy; plays lots of genres.
9. Rosli - Last I remembered he used to teach at Yamaha; Most my friends that learnt with him turned out to be mean shredders.
10. Dhalif - I heard he was giving lessons, but I don't know how much he charges. A damn mean shredder, plays stuff from Yngwie to Dream Theater, to Vai to almost anything he can get hold off. BEst part is, he's still in his teens. Child prodigy or probably damn determined guy!..hahaha...He'd probably be pissed that I mentioned that.
Well that's pretty much about alll thats on the top of my head. If I did make any mistakes in the names do correct me, as I can't remmeber most of their full names, its either their surnames of their first names. Try to interact with more people by going to local gigs or forming bands. You could post an ad at
www.luthermusic.com to look for more guitar teachers there. Its also a very good resource to look for other things from gears to members to form a band.
In response to Nefianz; Yes he does teach classical. He had to have classical foundation in order to get an entry to Berklee. I learnt lots of music theory with him.
In response to echoist; His students are from a wide range of ages from newbies to advance guitar players. No worries mate, he doesn't judge people from their age or appearance or gender.
