greetings friends... 8)

share which guitar bridge you fancy, tell us why (hopefully this will shed some light for newbies).

i was initially turned on by the whammy gymnastics of Vai/ Satriani, hence my first guitar (ibanez) with a floating vibrato. then the re-strining hassle got the better of me...

the subsequent investment was a uni-directional vibrato but the 'vintage' specs include protruding saddle screws which tore up my palm quite markedly on days when i propagate black metal...

then comes the tune-o-matic itch: affected my playing because i can't 'anchor' my picking hand to the body like i'm accustomed to...

today: whatever's comfortable, i'll stick to it. subsequent changes with a different bridge type will derail my momentum...

I go for floyd rose, if I can only get 1 guitar. I can do a lot of tricks and stuff with the floyd rose type trem, and the tunning stabiliy is only second to a fixed double locking system (e.g. FX-Edge). I think the ability to whammy is priceless, I find in it an extra dimension for different sounds.

Also, a FR type trem can be subtle and it can be ridiculous. I like to have my options open and available.

Granted, a floyd does reduce your bass and the overall tone is thinner, but thats a small price to pay for the added versatility. And string changing only occurs once a month. That is, if you have only 1 guitar!

You can get used to the quirks of a FR pretty easily. Like position of palm for palm muting. Like the problems with playing double stops, just bend both strings to compensate.

If I could have 2 guitars, I'll take a stoptail over TOM style bridges. String thru body please. Great bass and body for awesome rhythm tones. Also, no sharp edges. Hence my RG7621.

I love good floyds like the ofr, gotoh and the edge/lo-pro. The main reason why i prefer floyds to anything else is the tuning stability. A well set up floyd guitar can stay in tune easier than any other non-locking setup. String change is no problem, just change string by string. String break? I broke a string once at the start of the song and i restrang by mid song. I reused the string.

In comparison, if you break a string on a fixed bridge and you don't have spares, you're screwed. Even if you do, the string won't stay in tune very well because it's not stretched yet. This will not happen on a floyd, if you reuse the string.

i love the floyd rose too, but recently been going more into vintage trems

bro- you like it in use/ just the feel?
\

i like the use of it. can really create cool stuff that add flavor to ur playing! depends on the genre though.

there's a sizeable floating bridge fan here despite the re-stringing hassle 8) but from experience, if you are used to it, it won't be a hassle any more.

I prefer a floating trem as well. Although I do sometimes enjoy playing on my fixed bridged axes.

This might sound gay but I enjoy restringing the axe, as mentioned, it's not too much of a hassle once you're used to it. Plus I find it relaxing, and satisfying.

i like fender tremolo bridges. not that it's good (infact, i think it does not hold as well as any other trem), but i think the size is comfortable for my hands.

never tried a PRS trem before, but from the looks of it, should feel like a fender.

Fender American 2 point pivot bridge.

I don't really like Floyd Roses because of the additional hassle in stringing.

I don't like the Ibanez trems (Edge, etc) that are particularly sensitive since I started playing with Fender strats for quite some time... used to that feel already.

Hahaha! MAN! I concur!

tune-o-matic or fixed bridges for me...simple and sweet...changin string is fast and easy too...cant seem to get use to a floyd rose guitar man...maybe i shld try harder...but i think i will still stick to tune-o-matic...

and phil..its nt gay la....i enjoy changin strings for my guitar too...its like...a gd time to enhance 'bonds' with ur guitars...ok..tt sound weird...haha

I like Strats bridges or Wraparounds...tune-o-matics are kinda sharp and tele's ash tray just looks weird...floyd roses are a no-no for me...

Ibanez's Gibraltar III bridge (tune-o-matic variation) has smooth parts, unlike the sharp saddles of the original.

Heh i sorta feel the same way. I still prefer the floyd rose type trems, more specifically the edge series and gotoh trems. I've gotten so used to and find so much fun in changing strings and maintaining my guitar, sometimes i think i do it more than necessary. lolx.
