Guide on changing Pickups

here's another free tip ... seldom told : )

those solder on the back of the pots
you use your soldering iron and heat them
they do not seem to melt
so you hold the iron there longer .. and longer .. and longer
till you heat up your pots and they become not good....

the trick to assist the solder to melt is to .....

take some new solder and melt it onto the old solder on the pots
and the old solder being "wet" by the new solder
will now melt co-operatively ...

happy soldering
btw, the les paul pictured above has ugly soldering : )
is that factory original ??

i use a epi lp as well, and yes that IS the factory soldering. its basically everything short of fantastic. but with some of the beez magic touch. it sounds just perfect.

Ya, I don't dare to touch it because I only have one electric guitar and I need it for lessons. So I'm supposed to solder the volume pots? Anyway can I get the solder, soldering iron, solering iron holder in those hardware shops?

i usually get alllllllllllllllllllll my supplies from sim lim tower. but like i said before, no harm trying. SOLERING IRON, SOLER, yi eh solenoid le zai ah unker.

$5 soldering iron will last 2-3 hours before the coil burn out.

My advise:

Get a goot (thats the brand - goot) solderin iron 40W. They last longer and have no problem. Abt $12-14 depending where U buy.

Get a cheap soldering stand $5 or so

Get some non acid/resin based solder - the thin type one roll - few $$$

Get some soldering wax to aid in soldering.

What you cant get with your $$ here is expirience ...so my advise to you

Get some guitar tech for yr les paul, get some...

Can I inquire what brand and model your guitar is?

It would be really silly if it were anything high end and you manage to screw up while soldering.
