Great Pickups for Metal

eh dude. you should check out the dimazio X2N. really hot pick up. or the dimazio crunch lab. both great pickups. the best part it you dont have to route a battery hole.

There's this one chap, name of Dave Murray, uses the Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversary and Super Distortion pickups in his Strat. I think he plays for Iron Maiden :D

Haha, honestly, you don't need a mega-high output pickup to do pinch harmonics easily. I used to have this misconception and i remember asking this similar question about 6 years ago here on soft.

The most important thing in doing pinch harmonics is first, the technique, second, the compressor in you effects chain, and third, the distortion. Distortion not so, because pinch harmonics can be done very very clearly with just a compressor on clean channels.

With the right technique and a compressor in your chain, just switch to bridge pup and pinch away. It doesn't matter whether your bridge pup is a single coil, vintage humbucker or a killer output humbucker.

While it's true different pickups are designed to reproduce certain harmonics in a unique way, doing a pinch harmonic is fundamentally in the technique. That's what i found out after seeing some people do it on a stock strat effortlessly.

Sorry for hijacking this thread..

Would like to ask do any bro's here have a recommendation of pickups that
sounds tight and clear for drop tuned guitar with huge distortion and/or clean?

I have been thinking about playing in drop b (a la Breaking Benjamin)and my stock pickup were very muddy sounding when tuned down and played with massive gain..

Would appreciate some advice from fellow bro's here...Thanks

what gauge of strings do u use for drop B? by drop B i assume it's BF#BEG#C#?

I've heard my friend's 7 string fitted with john petrucci's signatures, crunch lab and liquifire. It had no problems reproducing the open notes on the 7th string clearly, also tuned to B, but i'm not sure of the 6 string version.

I tune my guitar to standard D and I find 11's just nice, so for drop B tuning, i guess.. 13s will be good? anything less will be too flappy me thinks. that should affect clarity in some way..
