Grapic EQ problem

this MAY be a stupid question...

you know those graphic equalisers? like that on the Hartke bass amp in TIET's room 4?
i've been trying to get a mid treble more bass kinda sound...like chris wolstenhome's bass in newborn (by muse of course). i can't seem to get it despite my attempts.

SO! can anyone give me a brief rundown on what each button on it is for? there's the compressor knob and the graphic equalizer thing that i don't understand?

anyone kind enough to explain? i haven't been using this high end stuff so i'm noob to this...

thanks in advance

:D

no worries. the graphic eq basically lists the frequencies that you are allowed to tweak. sliding a knob all the way up boosts that particulary frequency, and sliding it all the way down cuts it. setting everything flat (zero or middle position) is exactly what it means as well -)

thus if you want a boosted mids sound, and don't know exactly everything about frequencies, you can just 'shape' the graphic equaliser into a mountain shape, boosting the mids and cutting whatever highs or lows you don't like in the process. it's rough, but it's a good start.

alternatively is the 'smiley face' where you cut the mids and boost the lows and highs.

have fun! graphic equalisers are fun to tweak, but don't forget to play hard too -)

so to get a high treble bassy sound i make the left and middle higher and the right side lower am i right?

sorry bro, i should have been clearer:

the bass frequencies are usually on the left (100Hz -400Hz or something) and the treble frequencies are on the right.

hope that helped :)

graphic EQ-

leftsliders -low frequencies, center slider- mids, right sliders high frequencies

take your time to listen for what sound u want, increase / decrease slightly.

set the mid to zero first then work your way out, left and right.
when you have set the frequency required, then set the mids.

also, if you don't hv EQ, the EQ is on your bass...really.

to get the thoaty, middy 'jaco'-esque tone pick closer to the bridge pickup,
for a nice bass tone, fingers over the 'P'pick up or inbetween the 2 'J' pickups.
for a deep 'reggae'-ish/bass-ey tone fingers over the end of the neck/where the body meets the neck..its all there.....free even.
