hi, just asking a very general question about the pricing here.

the scenario is as follows.

i bought black chrome SG-503 tuners from you guys at $64.80.

a friend of mine bought gold SG-301 tuners from another guitar shop at $45.

now let me list the differences for both our tuners.

1. the price
2. finish
3. gear ratio (SG-503 is 1:15, SG-301 is 1:18
4. packaging. my SG-503 was packed in a plastic bag and secured with staples. my friend's SG-301 was packed in a box.

there are a few things here which would have made myself to imagine paying lesser than my friend.

1. packaging. ok this one is likely to fall under the minutiae, but suffice to say box packaging vs. plastic and staples, you don't see pricey stuff being packed in plastic do you? ;p
2. gear ratio. his higher, mine lower, self-explanatory.
3. finishing. his gold, mine black chrome.

the purpose of this post isn't to create trouble la, but i'd by lying if i said i wasn't having sour grapes when i got to know about my friend's purchase. i'm just seeking answers to the price disparity =/

Hello TOB,

Thank you for the query. We pack the Gotoh items ourselves hence the pricing is competitve with international online stores. Stewmac.com sells the SG-503 Black at 44.86USD without orginal packing, therefore we are priced according to international standards.

As for the price disparity between stores, I won't comment on other business practices but this is the price point that is competitive and yet sustainable for us. We can't be carrying our existing range of Gotoh products if we didn't at least match our prices to competing international online stores. Hope this explains the situation.
