This pedal deserves another review. I got this just a few weeks back..the first thing i noticed when i plugged this in was that it was virtually noise-free. most compressors add a good amount of noise into your rig. I tried a boss CS-2, route 66 compressor, BYOC opticomp, mxr dynacomp in my search for a transparent and affordable comp but I got rid of them either because they were noisy or colored my tone with too much bass.
I gotta say my search has ended. I assume the citrus is a kind of optical compressor so it doesnt have that rubber-band squish that is commonly associated with dynacomps. The only thing i dont like about it is that at higher threshold/sustain settings, the compression cuts in suddenly, like a volume limiter. However, this is mostly noticeable only on clean settings. Otherwise its really transparent. I use it for softening the attack for cleans, even out the string-string volume and smoothening out my drives.
thumbs up for Goose. I haven't tried the 'boutique' compressors but i would say this deserves to be in the same league.
