Last week I was in the Philippines and I did Pub hopping. I went to a few pubs where they have very good Filipino bands. I heard Classic rock, Heavy metal, Jazz and top 40s'.
Every pub which I went to, my eyes were on the guitarist. Musicians in the Philippines are not as wealthy as our Singapore guitarists. Most guitarists I saw used only 3 stomp boxes distortion, delay and chorus.I was very amazed with the sound they are getting. For rock, they play Malmsteen, ACDC, Dream Theatre, GnR, Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Santana and more.....and for guitars most of them use either Fender or Squire strat go into a Peavy or Marshall combo. No guitarists can afford Gibson or PRS in the Philippines.
In Singapore, I can see so many young guitarists using at least 8 stomp boxes,Gibson Les Paul and Marshal amp and yet the sound is totally not happening.
What I am actually trying to say here is that the tone is created by the fingers of the player. Look at Roslie of Sweet Charity, he gets fantastic tone from his Boss DS1.
So all young guitarists, develop your fingers first then spend money on boutique pedals.
