Good Mic Preamps/Mixers?

Hi,
I'm looking for a mixer and a good mic preamp. I'm only going to record vocals and an acoustic guitar. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are the preamps on the toneports any good? I'm okay with lesser channels/inputs i don't need to record a lot of instruments at a go but i need the best sound quality i can get below 800bucks as i've read that mic preamps and mics are really important. I'm also intending to get the Rode NT-2a by the way. Looking forward to your advises and thanks a lot!

Robbie.

Oh. Thanks for replying. So i should just get an audio interface first? Like the firebox? Are there any other selections out there with good mic preamps or what? Sorry i'm really lost. Haha. Or should i save up a little for better setup?

hmmm i have the firebox too, and was a big fan of the discontinued H4. but if you think about it, from soft online store $400 for firebox (2 xlr input, 2 line inputs, midi input) . vs $428 for zoom H4n (2 onboard mics, 2 xlr inputs, VERY portable.powers on AA batts)

you gotta do your balance see which one works better for your situation.
i read both decently good feedback about the preamps on H4n + firebox.

Okay thanks. Now i know more about this. I actually own an old Toneport UX1 but the mic gain knob is not working anymore, and it doesn't provide phantom power anyway. So i'll just stick to a firebox and a condenser mic. Will anything go wrong? And does anyone have any recommendations for good condensers for vocals? I'm really keen on the Rode NT-2a though. Hahaha.

Will anything go wrong?

If you're thinking explosions and mushroom clouds, I don't think so :)

The Rode NT2-A is a good condenser, feature laden. I noticed you mention the application to be vocals, are you recording choirs? If not do you really need figure of 8 and omni patterns?

Er nope not recording choirs. Just recording single vocal. So any idea which condensor will be good enough? I hope to get a good one and spend once, not having to upgrade in the near future. Haha. But of course there's a budget constraint. =/ But anywhere along the price of the Rode NT2a or if there are any cheaper and good ones. (:

nice mic blueprint..i also have it haha..i find it better than k2 which i don't really like to use....tried swapping the tube? I'm really keen on trying it out..
