Good Bass Amps

Hi everyone, I was thinking what to get for my next bass amp.

I was considering Combo-amps?

I've been using a small little practice amp when I bought my bass with it's starter pack.

As I do not like the tone very much, I was hoping changing the amp would help?

I would also like to have a more powerful amp anyways.

Can you all suggest some?

They must be lightweight, so that I can carry them out for normal/small gigs?

And yeah, preferbly cheap too...

I'm looking for somewhere of 50watts to 100watts that type of amp.

How much are these usually? And where can they be bought?

Thanks in advance! :)

Cheap as in it's worth the amount that it's selling for?

Cause I intend to save to reach that amount, if you get what I mean.

For a bass amp to sound decent, I would recommend something above 75Watt. Anything less than that, cannot project/pronounce the tone proper. You might wanna try Hartke.. It's bang for the buck and tone is good for the price. Roland also start producing a new range of good sounding amps too. If u're looking at vintage sound, you might wanna try Fender. I personally think Harkte are the best modern sounding, clear-sounding, and best priced bass amps around. :)

Okay, I'll try Hartke.

Anything above 75watts?

Hmm...okay. I'm keeping my options open too.

Available at most of the "major stores" right?

Eg. Swee Lee, etc.

Btw, thanks both cloud and aloychow :)

City Music carries hartke. A100 should be around 500bucks? they have an A75 as well.

Well, wattage is not the only factor contributing to tone and volume. So don't jump the first cheap >75 watt bass amp u find around.

Oh I see...

Well, any other suggestions besides Hartke?

Possibly a bit cheaper?

Cause I'm still studying, it'll be quite a while before I save up $500! XD

I'm looking more for a good, low mellow, punchy, bass tone. Not much interested in high and trebles yet, but I think soon I will be. But I think any amp is considered an upgrade to my 15watt amp here. hahas.

:-)

hartke a25 is thebest in hartke line up,.
others plainly suck,..
i got my hybrid and sell it off after a month,..
i got myself a MarkBass CMD102P
:-)
tc electronics also aint that bad,.
:-)

hey guys, sorry to hi-jack the thread a little :P
As I'm getting a bass amp too, I'm thinking of Line 6 Low Down series.

I'm looking at LD175 or LD300 PRO.
What do you guys think about these two? City music having 30% off, so wanna take this chance. But are the Line6 low down series reliable?

okay forgive me for consecutive post.

I'm looking at Hartke A100. Around $500 ?
I got this feeling (from the reviews) that Hartke is more reliable than Line 6 Low down? What do you guys think?

And for gig musicians: is A100's 100WATT strong enough to cut thru on-stage's mix?

i hated the line6 lowdown, tried in a jamstudio and it can't cut thru anything at all, and volume after 6, it started to sound really really really bad.

Hartke A100 is not that bad but in a gig setting, without PA support and a moderately loud drummer it can;t cut thru use it in a gig and used to own 1 until i got myself an eden nemesis 400 watts + 4x10 hartke cab. but unless u play in a accoustic gig or your guitarist is using a 30-50 watts amp. the ratio to bass to guitar amp is 3:1 for every 100 watts of guitar amp u need 300 watts on bass.

i got bad experience with line 6 lowdown.

firstly the knobs are digital controls

so, once you change settings, the positions on the knobs are all reset, and you will not know until you adjust the knob left right a bit for that knob setting to be "updated".

i also had one time when i put my settings on the amp already, then i accidentally turn a knob to activate the chorus, and realizing i don't want chorus, i turn it back to no effect, and all my EQ settings all get reset, and i have to retweak all those knobs again.

i also had one situation while playing mid-song that the amp just reset the settings by itslef.... and then my bass sound suddenly changed - in the middle of a song! without my consent! lol how bad is this!

so it was really bad expeirence.

@lordie,
thanks for the input, really helpful. But I don't play in a heavy band, at least not now. And the stage is small, so I guess A100 is pretty good enough.
Btw, have you tried a Kickback 12 or 15 before? I wonder what's the difference.
I know Kickback has 120W instead. Other than that, any idea?

@Resetti
Thanks for input. I almost wanted to get the Line 6s. But your experiences are holding me back. I'm considering something more reliable, analog and less unpredictable. :)

My budget is $500-600.
Any other recommendations of brand/model? Or models from Hartke?

i tried the kickback 15. its ok but the A series got a very nice EQ section. but i prefer the hartke for its aluminium cone. love the zing. if u looking for a nice deep bass a 15" speaker is always good, but if u want to move some air. consider a 2x10.

theres a 2x10 hartke cab selling on the classifieds is a good idea to get the cab and get a nice decent amp or a micro amp head eg) markbass, etc..etc..

@lordie
cool, but erm, my budget is around 600+ only :/
hey I saw this Hartke Hydrive 112C, ever tried it before? it's another kickback design.
250W this time. What do you think?
