good amps around 400?

sorry, borrow the thread for a while...

i've always heard people at harmony central forum raving about the peavey classic 30 and 50....wonder if its available in sg?

i know swee lee used to have them, its the one with the tweed covering. and is tube. but dun think they have it now. but call them to check. check with GC also, they might have 2nd hand ones...

I always thought that the AVT has a single 12AX7 premap and a transistor power amp.U mean that is completely transisitor now?

it's a complete solidstate now. the models which had a single preamp tube in the system were the VS (Valve State) series, discontinued at the turn of the century...

IMO, blame Peavey for this- they got it right with their solidstate amps, their tube warmth emulation is by far the best in the industry, it's inevitable that others would follow suit, notably Marshall. a 100% solidstate unit is easily less costly to produce compared to hybrid units. why bother with real tubes (which will wear out & require replacement) when the solidstate technology is able to create the pre-amp tube characteristics?

nostalgia... the Marshall VS100, now supseded by the AVT100

yea thats precisely why i wanna get a amp with an efx loop so it can work well with my pod and my newly acquired gt2, as well as using normal pedals.

or will a amp with good cleans be enough? if so it would make my life much easier (and cheaper)

look for features and the clean sounds of the amp... i see u got a pod... maybe u shouldn't get a new amp but insead invest in other equipments like paddles or guitar upgrades? or maybe get PAs?

havin ur 15watt marshall is good enough for home use... if u're doin gigs, just use house PA systems since u got a pod

since you're not relying on on-board overdrive, get an amp with a 12" driver + FX-loop feature- which is why a SMARVO 1X12 is a good consideration.

seems that higher watts amps come with effect loops only.

not true, my 35W bass amp has an FX loop feature & it's $300 (list)... 8)

why not just buy the above amp? it can definitely handle guitars...

Bro, according marshall website, AVT series still use 1 ECC83 tube as of now, even for the lowest series (AVT20). They can't possibly giving wrong info on their official website, right?

fascinating bro :D

can tell me more about this amp ? for home practice use would it make sense to up from a vox T-15 bass amp to this one ? thanks bro :D

sorry for going off topic

subversion - sorry but i think you're confused this time...:?:

the AVT20,50,50H etc all have at least one tube for preamp section. I'm an owner of an AVT50 and what I'm supplied with for the manual (tsk) is a combined AVT20, 50 and 50H manual, which states that the Valvestate 2000 range have have an ECC83 valve in their preamp stages.

if memory serves me right, it's the earlier some models of the VS series that didn't have a tube in it. vaguely remember that vs15r was solidstate all the way...

Hmmm...if you're talking about $400 vudget for a solid state, I'd say a rolands cube 30 is a good buy. Most people in Harmony central agree that for a solid state amp it has one of the best cleans ever. The gain and effects provided with the amp aren't too bad either. 8)

the Soundwave35 is a good one-up against your Vox T-15 but it's nothing excessive. this amp can match my 100W Peavey guitar amp so it provides good balance when i play at home. the on-board limiter & tweeter makes it sound more polished, the last thing to hear if you acquire a budget amp, is sounding 'cheap'. the deep cab design ensures that there's enough bottom end to compensate a default 10" driver. more importantly, there's an FX loop facility for an alternative pedal hook-up, check out majority of 35W guitar amps, chances are, there are no FX loop feature on board. i love this amp & i'm using it for my guitars also, it's really a bargain @ this price 8)

I would like to update on this.
That day when I had some free time, I fiddled around with the gt2's controls into my smarvo amp. I got a great sound using the the high at 9 oclock (previously set at 12noon) and low at around ten oclock. The overdrive through marshall and california sounds great. The tweed gain not that high, but enough for SRV-type of tone.
I apologise coz I was dissing GT2 as a distortion pedal straight into an amp a while ago. I realised that the boominess was due to the low control on the gt2, and the gt2's controls are VERY sensitive. The harshness, too due to me setting the high knob too erm, high.
Will be trying out the gt2 as a distortion pedal when jamming this wkend.

That was me haha. I don't really like the tone the smarvo has on the gt2... makes it sound different from what you hear through speakers.

i heard smarvos crap out on the gt2 in a previous thread..

has anyone tried the behringer series? saw their amps quite some time back at this behringer outlet in Parklane Shopping Centre..near my church there, and i was scouting around for a DI Box back then, so..we chanced by the store, but thing was, we couldn't try the amps.

I saw on Luther's website that they actually carry it now, and you know the service at luther is top-notch, maybe bro sub can come down to test it out? or someone else? i'll try to go one of these days...but down with stomach flu and now got bloody sore neck...aaaaarrghhh.... yupz..

the stacks cost like what ? 300 plus? haha..if i'm nt wrong that is..yupz...
thanks

Haha I need the money, but it's true that the gt2 sounds good through the smarvo now, wanted to clear things up, coz I know a few guys who wanted to buy found my thread and decided not to buy, kinda self-defeating.
