i currently own a marshall mg15, and planning to upgrade to something better. currently using a pod 2.0 and some other pedals, getting teh gt2 soon. any suggestions? i heard amp sims like the pod and gt2 dont go together to well with amps without efx loops. also thinking of smarvos because of the attractive prices :D

dont mind second hand too

what kind of sound are you looking for in an amp? More towards rock, metal, or a versatile amp etc?

Personally I have a Marshall AVT50 I got 2nd hand. It's got FX Send and Return, which fits your requirements. For the sound - it's good for me but I can see that it would not be a good amp for those preferring straight out hard rock - there are better amps out there for that. I got it because I wanted that Marshall glassy sound with a strat - and I'm really really happy with that. :D

if you're after a modelling amp,

Vox Valvetronix 30VT for music with less gain
or
Roland Cube 30 for music with higher gain :D

Prices are 300 for the Cube (after dist) and 435 for the Vox (before dist)

I have a Tech21 Tri AC. Just like the GT2, you got to get an amp with either an efx loop (to bypass the preamp) or an amp with excellent cleans.

Currently I have found a really good amp that has very nice warm cleans and an efx loop. :) Best of both worlds!

Check out the Kustom 30RC

Goes really well with the TRI AC. :)

For that price you can get a smarvo 2X12" 100watts Combo !!! BIG AMP..

Are the Smarvo amps good? Their prices are very reasonable, and there are a couple of stores selling them.

I have a Smarvo 4012R amp for sale. 40watts. Mint condition just used for 5mths. If you're interested can give me a call at 94798958.

does the smarvo amp have an efx loop?? i'm looking for amps with an efx loop too!! how much is the Kustom 30RC?? and where to get it?? esden??

That was me haha. I don't really like the tone the smarvo has on the gt2... makes it sound different from what you hear through speakers.

U looking for tube or transistor amp?Are u using it for gigging or home practice cause i think even 40W is big. There's someone selling an AVT 20 at 280 on luther. Its a hybrid amp.I suggest a clean amp that can allow u to max imise your gt 2

*cough cough* i'm selling a Trace Elliot 15W amp with excellent cleans, at least with my strat.

but seriously if you're moving away from just getting a practice amp I would suggest getting an amp with bigger speakers. imo smaller speakers just don't translate that bass response as well, and i do feel the difference is significant.

with a bigger amp though yes it is likely going to be at least a little louder for you to get an optimum tone, the exception being the Vox Valvetronix 30/50W that lets you adjust the output wattage of the power amp.

Yeap, the Kustom 30RC has an EFX loop... I think there is a 2nd one still in luther's shop... otherwise, I am not sure where to get Kustom amps....

how is it a hybrid amp?

if you are refering to the AVT's partial transistorized/ tube technology- that was a thing of the past.

I always thought that the AVT has a single 12AX7 premap and a transistor power amp.U mean that is completely transisitor now?

hmm $400 amp... Vox Valvatronix is good for that price... if its for home practise, 30 watts would be more than enough... remember its not the watts ratin that matters most... u need an amp with 10× the watt rating to have double the max volume...

look for features and the clean sounds of the amp... i see u got a pod... maybe u shouldn't get a new amp but insead invest in other equipments like paddles or guitar upgrades? or maybe get PAs?

havin ur 15watt marshall is good enough for home use... if u're doin gigs, just use house PA systems since u got a pod
