GILARock.com Debate #2 - Gigs w/ Strict Cutoff Times

i think the bands playing should be prompted and warned. If every band delays, then the last band would play damn late. Most big gigs put the "best" or "famous" bands right at the back so people would wait for them. And it's gonna be freaking late...

imho, i think headliners should play both at the start and at the end... their starting set should be a lil shorter than their ending set...

sort of the appetiser and the desert... reason being, usualy gigs start out with a rather dead crowd, and i don't think new bands have enough experience to work up a crowd, so the headliners can help out by opening the gig.. this could also solve the problem of late comers coming just to watch headliners play the last set...

visa - it's in the works! but very hard to find the time leh! :]

madwerewolfboy - that's an interesting and radical idea that might work on the rare occasion (the esplanade does this from time to time, but the stage isn't taken over by another band during the break) but ordinarily, wouldn't it involve asking a lot of your headliner? not only do they have to effectively rehearse for two different sets, going through the hassle of setting up their equipment twice, they expend a lot of precious energy in the process. and universally, as a musician, fan, or promoter, you always want your headliner to save their energy for the one big glorious show.

as a musician, under normal circumstances, the only way i could justify doing that is if i was paid twice the fee, because it literally is, twice the effort. think what, two shows for the price of one ahhh! ;]

But probably since it's 2 shows, your fees might be discounted a little because you are getting more money.

Goddamn dodgy gig organisers!!!

*shakes fist at DGOs*
