Gibson LP Standard?

Personallly I disagree with y2k, I think that the Studio is a solid workhorse especially if you are on a tie budget and can live with out the AAAAA flame maple top and the body being 1/8" thinner than a standard/classic/custom and of course without all the bindings.

I've played Gibson Standards, Customs, Classic, Heritage 80's Reissue, Studio all the tones are slightly different but no doubt a LP tone. But one thing to remember though, the Classic uses a 496/500 Ceramic PUs and the rest of the Gibson line uses BB Pro and only the Studio remain using the old 490/498 so there is defintely gonna be a slightly different tone, with the Classic being hotter and scream more, the BB pro being the warmest sounding of the lot and the Studio in between. <---- general classification.

a les paul is a les paul. anyway if u buy de studio n u are not happy with de electronics u can still afford an overhaul. de studio costs 1800 n de standard costs 3800. 2000 more just for better pickups, slightly thicker wood n a flame maple top which isnt worth to die for. binding also included on standards. be warned tt though de binding makes de guitar look cool it could cause loads of problems esp if u need to change ur fret wire. overall i tried both. seems equally heavy to me but de standard has a more broken in feel la. both r gd guitars.

You can also get a gibson LP studio plus. It has a flamed top, it sounds good and it's much more cheaper.

For me, i rather stick with Gibson for les pauls. I've played many copies, heritage, epiphone blah blah. But i still prefer the feel and the sound of a gibson LP.

How did u manage to get yr hands on heritage guitars in Singapore? Friend? :D

Not in S'pore. My cousin in oversea got one. I tried it when i went to visit him.

Agree. Some like the sound of the gibson's ceramics and some like 490/498 and others like BB pro tones. In some LP Custom, 490/498 are still been stock in it. Go and try it and see which sound you like best.

there's a heritage dealer in singapore......got to look hard enough, its not any of those guitar shop though..... but not too sure if he is still bringing in heritage guitars nowadays......

No... it's not that don't get a standard. It's just costly to get one. If you like a standard get a standard. Go for what you like best.

Yes. It's a pretty good deal :D

Hi marshall law,

Saw your Les Paul standard sometime ago and i must say its great to have flames on the maple top (from the picture you posted).
What pickups are on it and how did you tell it was those pickups especially when you bought it second hand.

Did it come with the tags and documents?

It comes with a manual and some warranty documents. My LP is a 2001 model so it's before Gibson put in burstbuckers. The pickups are 490/498. It sounds very jazzy when clean. The rhythm is not cutting edge enough in my opinion but the treble is good but lack some bottom end. But overall, it's a very good combination of pickups.

either this is ur first guitar or in addition to your arsenal. it's a good decision. if u really can afford it jez buy it coz gibby lp standard is a damn good guitar. even if u buy it second hand. u will still feel the pride of owning. try to stick with the stock pups.
