heyo people, i'm considering this guitar used. i want to buy somethiing which got a very long historty like fender/gibson/epiphone(not squier... somehow disgusted by the headstock). Yeah I want a HH guitar... so yeah the fender is out. so left epiphone n gibson. the epiphones looks very much like gibsons but i heard dat the stock pups are damn muddy... and if i were to go to sweelee to buy, it cost around 1K+? so yeah, i was considering this gibson LP standard... i saw from youtube a review on epi n gibbys.. hhaha the burstbucker pros seemed very thick and good haha. anyone tried b4 the burstbucker pro? is it high output? and shld i jus get the gibson or the epiphone n maybe get a pocket pod? LOL.

no offence dude, i'm a gibson user myself but gibsons are overpriced. i use a studio which is priced much more reasonably. i'm not a fan of the burstbucker or burstbucker pros cos i'm vintage inclined. mine comes with the 490R and 498T set which are called 'modern' if i'm not wrong. but they sound like overwound vintage pickups due to them having a strong midrange and nasal tone. just a tad too high output for my liking. i personally am not a fan of gibson pickups. even the 57 classics which are so called faithful replicas of the PAF pickups arent a good match for the original vintage PAF pickups imo. seymour duncuns do a better job.

so if u want something more reasonably priced, go for japan made les pauls by edwards, tokai or burny. those are serious quality stuff and they WILL be able to match up to gibsons.

just what type of music do u play?

rock. maybe a little bit of dragonforce. Haha. but I dun like ibanez... bcos they seemed to be like some guitars meant for metal like dean guitar...

if you're a shredder, try to stay away from les pauls. the high frets access is really quite unbearable, especially for those who strap their guitars low. which i am guilty of..

there are lots of other guitars out there that are high fret access friendly that are also HH configured. for example schecter. nvr really got to analyse one properly before. okay i'm gonna assume since u considered a gibson les paul u must have a pretty nice budget. so why dont u consider EBMM? those are sick guitars man.

i got a les paul not because i wanted to emulate my favourite guitarist but because i liked its weight and singing sustain.

also one of my reason: the sustain... n slash seemed to be able to shred well with that les paul of his... i dun really like the design of EBMM... they looked like those stingray bass........... actually the ibanez S5470 oso not bad... but to changing the strings is damn troublesome lo... the bridge... the nut... sian alr..

...but I dun like ibanez... bcos they seemed to be like some guitars meant for metal like dean guitar...

that's the impression everyone has because highly likely, the RG models dominate Ibanez discussions & these tend to incline towards the rock/ harder stuff. same goes for Dean.

yeah slash and randy rhoads could shred on a les paul. but really it isnt as easy as it looks. it can be done. but its difficult. the neck joint really really restricts fret access. worst than strats imo. thats why shredders like hydrofly hates gibson.

there will be guitars out there that can get u that kind of sound or even better. that i'm really sure abt it. the reason why i still chose the les paul is because i'm not a shredder. if u still insist on les pauls. then... theres the esp eclipse. that one could fit the bill.

basically i'm trying to drive the point that gibson.. really isnt the holy grail of all guitars dude. i own one myself. its good yes. but there are guitars out there that are worthy competitors and u shouldnt discount them just because gibson has a long history.

but u r not slash...so u r better off finding one guitar that suits yourself the most...and there's something about gibson is that u really need to go around and find one which u think sound best to u...cause not all of them sound the same even if its the same model

not to mention the thick neck too. I'd agree the epiphones are muddy compared side by side. The burstbucker pros are brighter and works well with the chambered bodies, with better resonance.
If you want value, get the Gibson Studio Worn Brown or Cherry/Vintage Mahogany...the only Studio with all mahogany and BurstBucker Pro pickups at a very reasonable price and it sings! The neck is fast too without nitro finishing

Haha.. thanks for the reply. maybe les pauls aren't so good for everything... But the bolt-on part in most fenders also prevent you from reaching the higher frets.... So I was considering a set neck which there's a curve/contour for you to reach them...

yeah of course les pauls arent good for everything. i dont think theres such a guitar.

u might want to consider those with neck through body with a contoured heel. something like this:

or this:

lol the first one is nice haha. the metal thing on the 2nd one will prevent you from reaching the higher frets right?

Well of course a Gibson les paul is not good for certain types of music but hell you'll never catch me dead without one ! I can swear by the Les paul man hahahaha . That lean mean music machine is damn reliable

HAHAHA...same here....i'll want to be buried with my Les paul........anyway...as for me, i have a fender strat and a les paul.. If i really want those FAT/heavy tones my les paul will neva fail me, as i wanna play those arctic monkeys etc tone, my strat will do the trick. So for me its comes down on the type genre and music/tone you really looking for. Once again that's just me!!!

Yet again we are on this topic... :(

The bottom line is. If you play a Les Paul and it suits you then buy one if it doesn't suit you, then don't buy. No use comparing it to other guitar brands and designs. Because there isn't a guitar that suits everyone or even genre for that matter.
