Gibson Les Paul Classic n Les Paul Standard

Hi, juz wanna ask what is the difference between a Gibson Les Paul Classic n a Gibson Les Paul Standard??

classics have the hot open coil 496/500 combo and a 60s slim taper neck.
standards now have burstbuckers pros, a more vintage sounding pickup.

and ever since the standards with 60s slim necks started being offered sometime around 2000, the price of classics have dropped.

when classics first came out in 1990, they were priced similar to the custom.
now its cheaper than a standard.

standards are available in both neck carves now. other than the pickguard on the classic which says 1960 and the open coil hums the other differnce is that classics seem to be only available in plain tops.

but other than that i feel both guitars are similar witha change of pups.

The inlays on the classic also appears aged rather than shiny inlays on the standard.

The newer standards also seem to have a different neck carve, not 50s and not 60s slightly different found tt out when i tried chanmins standard.

classic plus and classic premium plus were available a couple yrs after the classic was released, tho not anymore :P

if you are in the market for a flame Gibson top, get at least an AAA grade, anything lesser, you're better off with a solid top...

Its possible to find a nice pretty flame top ...

just needs some patience.

mine is a 2004 standard. but its got a pretty nice flame top.
took me forever to find a lespaul i really liked.

you got lucky perhaps.

WEF 2004, the ones in the LP Std are AA grade. i went ahead to buy one anyway, not much of a flame/ LP person anyway... a good guitar is a good guitar. 8)

if you look carefully, there are new standards with AA very close to a AAA. but usually these are only found in US, since the best are kept for their own market.

so chances is very rare to find a good one in local stores unless they hand picked it...

however close the AA is to its AAA counterpart, they are still one grade lower & tend to be imperfect visually. this is why i don't give a hoot about flame gradation- doesn't add to tone...
