If you put your heart into it, you can learn one song in a week even as a beginner.
Don't underestimate yourself.
Sounds like your budget is...large.
SV is another guitar store.
That's overpriced. And Gibsons are top of the line stuff. I'm sure as of now, you don't need it yet. Mostly beginners start with a budget of 200-700 tops for electric.

Not all cheap gear is like that.
Generally, midrange stuff (around 400+) will be good. Even if you overhaul hardware(tuners and bridge), at most cost you another 400 bucks.
Specifically, try the Rally Neosound at SV Guitars,
Samick's Royale Series at Davis Guitar,
Epiphone Dot/Casino at Swee Lee.
SV and Davis are located at Peninsula Plaza, beside Funan IT Mall.
I was down at sv this afternoon before going to adelphi to buy records.
The rally neosound is nice n cheap.. But the price difference between the Gibson es335 n the rally neosound is so much. I really worry about the quality ...
Side track: Are you the guy who started the thread on MeTaL GuItArS?
Dont worry about quality... Your just learning 1 song at the moment.
Ask anyone coming from the school of hard knox(Knocks)
they'd tell you that they'll use a Kapok and perfected the skill of playing stairways to heaven half asleep.
If you take care of your guitar, it'd take care of you(most of the time) Some guitars are built like tanks (See clapton's Blackie) and can last for years.. Don't shoot down the Rally just yet cuz of its price..
Heehee..Cheap is the strat i got for 50 bucks and i'm overhauling.
But seriously, Don't base your buying criteria on price. Cheap does not equal crappy and useless. The Rally is pretty well setup, stays in tune well and does give nice good semi hollow sounds. If your ears like that sound, get it. When you are more experienced and know what exactly what you want, then, by all means go ahead and get a more expensive guitar. But a good place to start would be these low-mid range bang for the buck instruments.
