ghs strings

anyone else bought a new pack of ghs strings only to find that one or more of the strings in the pack has rusted? Is it the quality of the strings itself or the store prob has kept the strings in the shop for too long without humidity control? Or the packaging?

that doesn't happen exclusively to GHS, Fender & Ernie Ball are others with this problem but it's not the manufacturer's fault, really. it's how the stores keep these.

wow. never happened to me, probably the shop's humidity. which set and where did you purchase from? maybe you could show them the pack if you havent used it yet.

hate to say this from yamaha ps. Its not the first time. Subzero boomers some more. The daddarios 110 were sold out. Sad... Recommendations of gd place to buy fresh strings?

Anyway comparitively between subzero boomers and daddarios 110. The boomers seem to have more output, wheras the daddarios have less output but more bite. Its a more raw organic kind of tome compared to the boomers.

Another question anyone knows how ernieball slinkies compare to daddarios?

fresh out of the packet , ernie balls feel more fluid.

like they're easier to bend and stuff, but man they rust damn fast.

that's why i choose daddario, good feel and last long, about 1 month for me or till a strings breaks. however having said i also do keep my guitar in my room with windows closed all the time so not that much humidity...

Hmm.

^^ It's funny that I feel the exact same opposite... the EXL series d'addarios that I used rusted on me within 3 weeks, what's more I had bought the 3-in-one box last time, and was stuck with 3 packs continuously.

Switched to GHS for about half a year before converting to Ernie Balls because I love their Hybrid Slinkies (orange colour).

However, the GHS were bright, very bright indeed. Luckily they didn't eat frets like the d'addario ones did :?

ernie balls rust too fast for me to really enjoy them, about 1 week for me..

d'addarios are just fret killers, slightly bright sounding and they dont really last that long either, 3 weeks to 4 tops.

ehx strings aren't bad either, similar to the daddarios(i think, long time since i used daddarios) but definitely dont kill frets that fast. and they retain their tone longer than daddarios. warmer than daddarios but less than the ghs EJs.

the GHS eric johnson set i use most of the time are the best for me. warm sounding (pure nickel FTW!), fret-friendly, retains tone for REAL long. only downside is that it gets really dirty with all the grime and crap.

i use 11-52 btw, meant for downtuning but i play in std.
but the ehx and daddarios only come in 11-48 i believe and the 6th string for those are really too loose.

To lifele 55: i cut the strings in the guit b4 opening the pack. The string is not rusted totally. The weird thing is its like no rust, 15 to 20 cm then about 1cm of rust. Only one of the strings is affected. Thats why i was wondering about qc issues. Then the pattern repeats. Needed to practise so i just put it on first. Anyway will be goin down to the shops today to have a look.

as a dedicated measure to prevent string corrosion in the package, EHX made it a point to include a small sachet of silica gel in theirs 8)

Definitely not a qc problem, but a shop problem. I buy my GHS from Davis and they're always blinging shiny.
