Getting new gears.

All right. I'm going to keep it simple and straight forward. I have a budget of about $800-900 and thinking of getting a new guitar and some pedals.

Should I just buy a Fender standard tele that's in my budget or a cheaper guitar ( a Squier) with a VS Jekyll and hyde and an EHX booster pedal. The thing is, if I were to buy the fender, I can't afford to buy those pedals(which i really want). If i get the Squier, i could afford the pedals but the guitar is not as good as the fender. I'm still a student but I'm serious about my music and guitar.

Any advice?

P.S: for the guitar, i want a telecaster :D

What guitar do you have now? What music do you play?

haha for the sake of the Language, there's no such word as "gears", in this context, it should be gear. or at least thats how my teacher teaches me. (don't ask why I know this, got owned for this stupid lil' mistake)

serious bout music?

Then use the money to get the standard tele.

pedals can wait and they are so much cheaper then the fender standard tele and easier to save up the money for it(or if anyone is getting for you, they can spend less money as well, compared to the guitar)

with the fender tele, the mindset you will have, is that the guitar will be something that you can keep around for long(as analsyed by the way you wrote), you will feel good when people know that you got a "fender tele" instead of a cheaper tele, you are subconsciously a "branding" person, etc etc.

how about the pedal you asked?

Oh well, you did mentioned you are a student, but serious about music? So now this is the time to know how serious are you, to make a decision. To be serious about something, the first thing is to be firm, to know what you want, either this or that. If You cant make up your mind and need people to convince you, heh, that aint too convincing, to be serious, imho

anyway, either choice, end of the day, you will still have gear to play with and do your music.

If I were you, I'd buy the Telecaster first. Pedals, like what was mentioned above, can wait. Or you can borrow pedals from your friend if they got some.

Get the telecaster because it's the guitar that you want. Surely you'll be even motivated to play and practice.

Really? owh okay haha thx. Well, I play mostly indie garage rock, influenced by The Strokes. My guitar now is just a cheap strat copy. I've been playing for a few years now, so yeah, decided to get a new one.

Thanks a lot dude. Your post really helped me decide. Well, serious meaning I'm really into music. Guess I'm still quite new to everything. Thanks again, Cheers.

btw I'm getting it in around next month. Hope there's a sale or something.

Fender. Now.

Not a brand thing. Just that you will FEEL happier playing one. Yes modern everyday Fender's are not the best thing around and they do fall apart now and then, they can be remedied and you know you can still play on it without fear.

You get a Indonesian Squier, you will spend on a nut refit, change of pickups in the future, a new bridge cause they just dont seem right, fix the controls when the pots crackle or dont work or just pop out, the tele input jack is gonna come out, the tuners will go and your guitar wont stay in tune and intonation will always be a problem......

Fender. Now.

Who says you have to buy the Fender from sweelee?

I believe it will run slightly more than 700 from brendon, just email him for a quote.

Theres a small sweelee sale at the Bras Basah Showroom from 29th may to somewhere in July.. happening now in conjuction with the great singapore sale. 30% off on stuff. go check it out.

Telecaster!

Just bought my tele few days ago!:D

haha bought it from swee lee for $799. Arctic white in colour, maple fretboard. The finish on the neck is very thin so the grains of the wood can be seen. Awesome! haha. Plus the neck also feels so good.

The sound of it?.. Hm, I was actually surprised. I expected it to be bright and thin, but it was actually very warm and fat for a tele. All the knobs on the amp are 12 o clock and I tried it on different amps.

Didn't regret buying it and hope it will last me for a long time ^^.
