GEAR opinions....for the guitarist who plays loud.

ok... currently.. i bring my DS-1 , VS route 66 , vox wah and TU-12 tuner to my jam sessions.. mainly doing clean stuff.. with a smooth singing dist/OD for lead.
i contemplated making a pedalboard to reduce setup time.. but have been too lazy to make one.

Now im thinking of buying a multi effects or amp modeller of sorts to bring to jams and the occasional gig. Also if possible...can use for direct recording.. to lay guitar tracks.

the potentials
a pod pro. w/midi foot controller.
a pod xt live
a gt-6 (selling at 600 on luther classads)
a gt-8
a line 6 AM4 (amp modeller)

should i get a rackmount? with a midi foot controller? or a pedalboard-type like the gt-6 ? ... the soundclips i heard online for the pod xt live , gt-6 / gt-8 and gt-5 .... and digitech GNX multi efx ...all have this typical dry , harshness...

" If " what i get at home with my tube amp ... is a 10/10 ... i would be glad to perform or jam at loud volume with a 7/10. if you guys get my drift?

any suggestions? anyone uses any of the above equipment

or has another setup which works VERY well?... doing a genre like...
metal / rock?...

usually at gigs... we'd be provided with a peavey bandit.. or a nicer better amp depending on gig funding.... miced up into the p.a... and often we only have a couple minutes setup time... so really would wanna hear from you guys about this!!!
thanks.

u can consider getting a custom pedalboard from mrmisse.com ... they cost 200+ thou.

heard b4 pod xt live @ citymusic before... the things u can do are great (u can direct w/o an amp, that the main thing). However I must say the sound isn't that great to my ears. really agree with u about the harsh/dry part.

gt6 has good usable guitar sounds... even if they're digital sounding imo. heard the lunchbox guitarist use it at weelee aljunied last time. (i'm not sure if he's still in the band thou... lol)

it's been rumored the tonebone british thing is great for most amps (at least so far what i see people have been posting on the forums here.) but i never heard it with my own ears... can't really comment.

hi Chan,
u can get really loud wif rackmount units but the issue here is mobility..
u `ll be carrying i think more than 20kg of stuff and that ofcourse depends on ur rack.

i like the sound of xtpro..thought of buying it because of:
lots of connection, metal packs.. (coz on engl and bogner amps)

my current set up is just a Rocktron Chameleon 2000.Rocktron midimate a sd1 and a boss ge7 eq..

Im thinking of adding a poweramp, behringer 2496deq ...later
as you can see the list grows and so does your budget...haha..

one thing i recommend try and get a simple set up.
maybe a gt2 distortion pedal , eq pedal, chorus or delay..

loudness is not an issue as the inhouse sound man shld be able to adjust to suit to your needs.
BTW i dont gig...haha..

ChanMin, what I feel is that if you are happy with your tone, you should stick with it. Build a nice pedal board for your little babies. :P I'm strongly against multi-efx pedals, although I've never owned any before but I've heard many of them and they all sound.. horrible. From sound clips to people jamming with them to live gigs. I also believe that effects should remain in the analog domain, and leave digital for making sure sound signals remain unmodified.

Maybe you can get some sort of tube preamp into your loop for the tube sound at gigs/jamming. Or buy a tube amp head to bring around

Then again, if you can afford it, why not just buy everything and try? Then sell off the stuff you don't like :D

If you're going for the pedal board thing.

I recommend you pure analogous orgasonic distortion.
Its called the Rust Driver, by the brandname "HAO"
